The system I was using for GBPVR didn't have a DVD drive so I've installed one. I have the Intervideo WinDVD installed and can play DVD's through WinDVD and Windows Media Player.

I've used the "Config" tool to set up the DVD drive.

I'm running 96.12 of GBPVR.

I do not have a "DVD" menu button to even try playing the DVD even though it is enabled in config.

I've searched the forums and the Wiki, but can't find an answer - any suggestions?

Thanks,
andrew

I dont use the dvd-player but I tried to activate the plugin, guess what... it didn't work.
I took a look in config .xml, I noticed: <ShowDVDButton>false</ShowDVDButton>
Change false to true, and it works, at least for me it did.

I had already checked the config.xml and saw the 'true' value, which does, as you mention, correspond to the checkbox in config (which I have checked!)..

any other suggestions outside of reinstalling gbpvr?

Are you using a PVR350? If so, its not possible to watch DVDs via this device, so the button is hidden.

Yes, I am using a PVR-350... and that's really unfortunate!

Any knowledge of anoyone else who has written a plugin that would allow this to happen or pointers on where to start?

I love GB-PVR, but might have to "start over" if I can't get this to work. :-(

There is a plugin called XDVD that might get you simple playback, no menus etc. It works by doing on the fly conversion of the VOB files to standard .MPG files.

Otherwise all I can recommend is using a regular video card. No other software exists that I know of, commercial or freeware, that allows you to watch DVDs via the PVR350 TV out. The hardware is just not designed for this task, and lacks many features that would be required (AC3 audio, compliant overlays etc).

Ok, thanks for the quick replies.

I'm thinking I may want to rip out the PVR-350 and start over on the hardware front  at least as far as the capture card is concerned. I only have one slot left for expansion and I was planning on putting in a soundcard that supports S/PDIF output to get 5.1 through my stereo...

which makes me think, if the problem with the PVR-350 is the audio, but audio and video streams on a DVD are stored separately, could the video not be played back through the PVR-350 and the audio sent separately to the sound card?

Forgive my ignorance.. and I know from reading other threads that you've stopped developing for the 350 - I'm just really curious!

Audio is not the only problem. You'll most likely never see DVD playback on the PVR350, so I'd start planning for a new video card if you want DVD playback.

Thanks. I'll start a new thread with the questions I have now (what video card.. and I've seen other people using the same base system (Compaq Evo 510) so will see what kind of setups they've been using to get this all working.
