..also posted in hardware... wasn't sure where it belonged.

Greetings all...

I put my pvr together about 3 months ago (all new equip). After alot of tweaking, testing, etc. i got my system working almost perfectly.

Two months or so went by and I upgraded the gbpvr to the newest version. All was going great.

Then things started to change...

I'd get random lockups during video play back, tv watching, etc. The screen would usually get all garbled and then GBPVR would lockup and i'd have to reboot. At first it was once a week...then once a day...then once an hour.

I really wanted to cover all possible problems before blaming it on GBPVR.

So.. over the last few weeks i've been installing new drivers, removing drivers in safe mode - grabbing nvidia drivers directly from them as opposed to my video cards manufacturers (MSI) website, upgrading BIOS, removing RAM sticks, etc, etc.

Nothing has worked. Now i've got random video problems going on without GBPVR even running! I think it's safe to say that my video card isn't in great condition.

I did notice the heatsink gets pretty hot and my case (a brand new compaq computer 3mos old anyway) doesn't get tons of circulation. I live in texas and the ambient temp in the house has increased since the birth of my PVR. I removed my MSI NX6200TC Pci-E card and even tried applying a fresh coat of arctic silver. Still.. getting problems.

Could i possible have corrupted the drivers or registry or something through all this? or is the card dying? Im at a loss...

So.. unless anyone has any other ideas of what could possibly be wrong (besides that my card is fried)... i'd like to know some other video card suggestions.

Im using this computer for PVR and nothing else - no games/etc... it's hard to believe this card died from that alone (although i did get it for only $40 or so from newegg).

All i need is a damn card with s-video out so i can get back to my lazy GBPVR lifestyle!

I'm debating on doing a complete OS re-install, but if it's really just my video card that's crapped out, i'd rather not waste the time doing that just to run into the same problems again.

Thanks for any help!
