I'm running on XPx64, and so couldn't use 9707 and have had to go back to 9612, so I don't think this will be very relevant to most people. However I think it's a rather interesting problem.

I have a strange situation where config.exe and gbpvr.exe cannot change tuning my Twinhan DVB-S card - scans produce the same channels over and over again (of whichever transponder was tuned last before the app ran). eg:

T:10744,H,22000,56~P:6301~V:5000~A:5001~L:eng~PMT:261~TXT:5003~N:>BBC 1 London
...
T:10773,H,22000,56~P:6301~V:5000~A:5001~L:eng~PMT:261~TXT:5003~N:>BBC 1 London

If I manually set the transponders I want in my SCAN-1.cache file, I can set the channels. Then GB-PVR.exe has the same problem, but the recording service seems not to. Recording work fine, and if I disable Live Preview then GBPVR.exe is fine.

The only difference I can see if that the recording service runs as the Local System user, and everything else runs as me, so maybe it's a permissions thing. It definitely worked around February time when I last tuned though.

BTW, the BDA/DVB-S ini files are really old. I use 0282.ini, and it's very wrong now.

I can't help on the DVB-S side of things as I have analogue and DVB-T tuners.

A few things I'd try though...

To prove/disprove your permissions theory, you could set the rec. service to run using your account instead of the LocalSystem account. If the rec. service starts displaying the same behaviour then you know you're right. In saying that though, if your account has local admin privileges then there shouldn't be a problem with you doing anything. Further to that, I don't think the main app. or config.exe actually need any special permissions in general. The only area where people get caught out WRT permissions is when using NTFS and a non-admin user account. If the user doesn't have access to certain folders, this can cause problems.

To sort out the general tuning issue, I'd personally edit the 0282.ini file to contain all the correct information - if you're not starting with the right transponder freqs then it's only going to confuse matters anyway.

The other thing I'd try is to delete (or at least rename) your Scan-1.cache file. This way it will force the config.exe to do a full scan from fresh. Strange things can happen if there are corrupt or incorrect data in those cache files. Get the 0282.ini file up to date first though.

Cheers,
Brian

If you're able to provide an updated one, I'm happy to include it.

Yes good test. I changed the service to run as me, and no change - it still worked perfectly. I usually have to delete the scan cache anyway. If I stop a scan in the middle then the last set of scans are missing the frequency number, and the scan will fail to start unless I delete it.

So is there any difference in how the recording service and the other apps make the tuning request? If I open the bda.grf in graphedit and submit the request manually, I get the same problem. I have other DVB apps on here, and none of those suffer from it at all.

Here's a new 0282.ini.

Not that I know of.

That really sounds like you're having problems with the drivers ignoring tuning requests, particularly if its doing it from GraphEdit also.

I'm actually using a Twinhan DVB-S, and havnt noticed this problem. I used this card for developing GB-PVR's DVB support.

Yes, it does. There have been a few new versions of the twinhan BDA driver lately, and one of those might be what broke it. But then why should MediaPortal, ProgDVB and DVBViewer all work fine? Ah well, doesn't matter. I've got it set up for what I need now - recording service + web interface is the reason why gbpvr is the best. If it gets worse I'll probably just do the inevitable reformat. Bet that'll fix it Big Grin

Oh, but if you ever need anyone to test stuff on x64, I'm right here ...
