TV-OUT freezes

After the success of fixing the blinking OSD via the TV-out with the PVR350 I am now getting lockups when trying to either use the skip or replay keys on the haupauge remote when replaying a recorded programme.  When watching a recored programme on the TV pressing the skip/replay keys on the remote sometimes cause the TV screen to lock on narrow pink vertical strips.  I can close down GBPVR from the PC keyboard but cannot clear the TV screen. The only way to restore service is a PC re-boot and restart GBPVR.

I have sent log files from a couple of example failures under separate cover.  Hope you can help.

Hey, I'm having a pretty similar problem. When I try to watch recorded TV with my wintv350 on tv-out the tv-out freezes after a few seconds of video, sometimes the computer freezes too, sometimes it doesn't. I've seen the posts saying that this could be a motherboard conflict, but i can use winTV2000 to open and play these files via tv-out no problem (but GB-PVR is way better so I'd rather use it). Live TV seems to work ok to tv out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

This is the PVR350 driver locking up.

Thats because its the OSD part of the PVR350 drivers that are locking up. WinTV2000 doesn't show any OSD so isn't affected by the same problem. On the other hand SageTV also shows OSD information and has the same problem with locking up.

Sorry if that sounds like I'm being dismissive and unwilling to investigate further. The truth is I spent alot of time in the past looking at this error, only to find its all happening down in the drivers and was out of my control. I really dont have the resources that would be required to correct the error.

Hopefully Conexant or Hauppauge will come up with some new drivers that dont have this problem.

I understand.  I guess that the logs I sent to you point to this problem with the drivers so I will just have to live with this for the moment.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, your logs tally up with this diagnosis. All of a sudden all the OSD driver calls start reporting errors. Some users have it worse, and there machine locks hard requiring a reboot.

Its a really frustrating problem because it does affect a large percentage of users (%50?), but for the rest it works just fine. On my machine current development machine, I've never once seen the PVR350 lockup.

Thanks for the replies.  Since this sounds like a problem involving the OSD, is there a way to disable it during recorded TV playback?

Thanks

The PVR350 OSD is also used for showing the main menu and any other on screen graphics, so you would see nothing other than video on your TV.

have you found any version the the card drivers that are stable? What ver of the driver are you using to develop with?

I guess im going to have to use the GB-PVR to record only, and use WinTV to playback.

if you disable the OSD only durring playback does it still have the same effect? could that be a user option if it does have effect?

My Athlon64 development machine with MSI K8T FIS2R motherboard has never had any problem. My old Athlon 1800+ development machine with some Gigabyte motherboard has also not had this problem.

All the versions of the drivers have worked fine for me on my two machines, but the problem really only relates to certain hardware. Comments seem to indicate that it relates to specific motherboard chipsets.

When the OSD is not used, then the problem does not occur. Unfortunately, the OSD is used for all graphics shown on the TV out (including menus etc). Even when showing menus, there is a video playing in the background (black.mpg).
