If I watch a DVD movie right after launching GBPVR, the picture looks great. But, if I watch TV first, then go to DVD it is way too dark. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I use Overlay for my playback.

If anyone can help me with this I would be grateful. I can post whatever log files you would need to diagnose this problem. I really want to figure this out, so my fiance doesn't make me put the old DVD player back. SO far she is liking this software, though. She thinks it's easy to use.

If I exit out of GBPVR completely (even the tray icon) then reload, it plays the DVD fine, if it's the first thing I do. Then I watch TV and BLAM!!! Dark DVD, and I mean almost to the point of being unwatchable.

Thanks again!!

I know I keep posting on my own thread, but I have something else to add. It seems like the same thing is happening when I go from timeshift tv to live tv. The live TV gets real dark. But then if I close GBPVR and reload it is back to normal.

Mh, how about telling us your hardware? Your Graphiccard? Your OS? Your used Graphicscarddriver and used DirectX Version?

Perhaps your used MPEG-2 Decoder (like Cyberlink PowerDVD, Intervideo WinDVD, etc. pp)

It sounds like an overlay colour control problem. What graphics card do you have, and are you using Overlay, VMR or VMR9?

I am using Overlay. When I try using VMR 7 or VMR 9 the picture is always really dark on Live TV, plus the performance is not as good (tv doesn't run smoothly, skips frames). With Overlay the picture is nice and bright with good color, except when watching a DVD after watching Live TV and Live TV looks dark after watching Time shift TV.

My setup (what I can think of while at work)
Duron 1200 Mhz
MOBO unknown
384 Ram pc100
Windows XP SP 2
Vid Card: Radeon 9000 64 meg ram/ Catalyst 6.5 Drivers
GBPVR Version .97.xxx?

I am not sure, but I think I am using a Cyberlink MPEG 2 decoder, but what would be the best way to find out for sure?

Thanks for responding, and let me know what else I can find out for you. I will get the info together tonight when I get home from work.

Smile

I found a solution to the problem.
I got frustrated last night with the darkness of the dvd I was watching, so I decided to brighten it with the overlay/video controls in the Catalyst Control Center. I got the DVD picture looking really good.
Then this morning, when I wanted to watch Live TV, it was too bright. But then I remembered that when I used VMR 7, before I brightened the settings in Catalyst, it was too dark. So, I turned on VMR7 and the picture on Live TV was just about right.

So now when I watch a DVD it is good, and when I watch Live TV it is good. I think I was just having some sort of problem using the Overlay setting in GBPVR.
