What do the blackbird=1 and conexant=1 arguments actually do? Isn't it enough to just have all of the WDM drivers for a card?
For a new card, what are the minimum set of WDM drivers to enable capture from a tuner?

'blackbird' is used to specify the layout type of the filters (separate capture/encoder filters vs combined). 'conexant' is need to certain cards to initialise them and to set bitrates.

What card specifically are you trying to add?

No.

Our company (ViXS) has a hardware encoder/transcoder that is used in a number of tuner cards primarily in Asia. Nvidia also uses our encoder in their dualtv boards.
I have a reference board that I was going to try and use with GBPVR and compare the performance to my Hauppauge PVR 150.

It seems that in order to get a new card working, you need to have WDM drivers + your software needs to understand how to communicate with the API in the driver to set various parameters.

Is that right?

Yes, pretty much. Though it can also handle the generic MCE methods for specifying bitrates etc if a cards specific API isnt understood.

I didnt actually notice this post before. Is there any chance your company could supply me with a sample board?

I dont currently have access to any devices that use that chipset, so a sample device would be very useful if possible. If you're not an appropriate person at ViXS to ask, can recommend another contact?

That's a good question. Normally there is a charge for reference systems, but I will check and see what it available given the benefit is to incorporate support for the chipset, which would add value for us. I'll let you know.

Ok, thanks. If you need to, you can email me at support@devnz.com.

If there is a charge involved, then I wont bother. I obviously run this project on a very low budget.

I'm one of the designers on the wireless video side, and the folks in Toronto are the designers of the mpeg coder and associated reference boards. I will find out what is available or get you a direct contact.
