Hello all,

I just got a used MSI TV@nywhere Master thrown in with some other stuff I bought, so I figured I might as well try it out, and GB-PVR looks awesome.

In configuration, I made a new Capture Source.

Recording Source: Direct Recording plugin

Capture card type: Conexant BlackBird (since that's what the TV@nywhere uses). I'm sure this is right since if I check "Only show devices listed in this machine" the BlackBird is still listed.

Country: Canada
Board number: #1
Source: Internal tuner / cable

However after saving all of this when I try to go to "Live TV" from the main menu, I get "Failed to locate configured capture device" Sad

What do I need to modify to fix this?

Thanks!

The Conexant BlackBird selection will only work if you've installed the original Conexant BlackBird drivers. It will not work with cards that are based on the same reference design, but uses drivers with own custom names (which is probably the case here).

If this device is based on the Conexant BlackBird reference card, you'll probably be able to copy the [Conexant BlackBird] section in direct.ini, and configure it for the names used by your specific card.

Alright. I tried creating this section in direct.ini (see end of post).

I'm assuming that I was supposed to change the names to what they show as in Device Manager under "Sound, viceo and game controllers"? (For the BlackBird section, they were the same name but "Conexant 2388x" instead of "MSI 8606").

Now of course when I hit save it says "Drivers not found, are you sure you want to save anyways?".

When I try to go to live tv now, it says "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Is this better or worse? Smile

[MSI TV@nywhere Master]
INIT_MODE=DEFAULT
INIT_MSP=0
BLACKBIRD=1
CONEXANT=1
FILTER_CROSSBAR=MSI 8606 Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=MSI 8606 Video Capture
FILTER_TV_TUNER=MSI 8606 Tuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=MSI 8606 Audio Capture
FILTER_ENCODER=Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In
PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S
PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=656
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

edit:
If this is of any use, the drivers are DEFINITELY Conexant 23880 based. From the CX88AUD.inf file (audio driver) in the installation CAB from the MSI installer I used:
CX23880.DeviceDesc= "MSI 8606 Audio Capture"
AUDFriendlyName= "Conexant 2388x Audio Capture"
DiskId= "MSI 8606 TV card driver disk"
...etc. There are quite a few things in it which make me believe it's just a rebadged 2388x card. So I think I should be able to get it working with some assistance Smile

You need use GraphEdit to check the names. Google should locate a download for you. The names are not shown in the Device Manager.

Thanks.

I used GraphEdit and looked around in "Insert Filter". This is what I could find that looked relevant under WDM Streaming xxxxxx:

FILTER_CROSSBAR=MSI 8606 Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Conexant 2388x Video Capture
FILTER_TV_TUNER=MSI 8606 Tuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=MSI 8606 TV Audio

I couldn't find anything appropriate for FILTER_ENCODER (not sure what I should have that set to).

Does this sound even remotely right? I'm still getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when I click Live TV in GB-PVR.

If you zip and attach your logs I'll take a look.

Thanks.

I zipped all of the logs for both the config program and for GB-PVR itself. I also included my direct.ini. The entry I added is at the bottom under [MSI TV@nywhere Master].

Before making the zip I made sure to go into GB-PVR and click on "Live TV" two or three times to make sure there should be a few entries in the logs with errors for my most recent settings.

There is a couple of things wrong I can see in these logs.
Quote:22:21:27.781 VERBOSE ConnectPins: 'Audio Decoder Out' to 'Analog Audio In'
22:21:27.781 VERBOSE Dest pin for connect not found
22:21:27.781 VERBOSE ConnectPins failed: hr = 80004005
22:21:27.796 ERROR Failed to connect pinNameCrossbarAudioDecoderOut to pinNameCaptureAnalogAudioIn
This looks like the 'Analog Audio In' pin name is wrong for your device. You'll need to check this name in GraphEdit on your device's capture filter.

Quote:22:21:27.796 ERROR Failed to get capture filter output pin. This will cause encoder auto-detection to fail
This makes think you device and its drivers are not based on the Conexant Blackbird reference design (which uses a separate encoder filter).

This looks like the 'Analog Audio In' pin name is wrong for your device. You'll need to check this name in GraphEdit on your device's capture filter.

So do I have some of the PIN_XXXXXXXX_XXXXXX settings in direct.ini set wrong? I'm not sure what to do with those.

Where should I be looking to see what my device's capture filter is? Under WDM Streaming Capture Devices I see Conexant 2388x Video Capture (and also Audio Capture). I have the same video capture listed under Video Capture Sources as well.

In GraphEdit under WDM Streaming Encoder Devices, I have nothing. Is that bad?

This backs up my thoughts that this device isnt based on the Conexant BlackBird.

A quick check of the net shows this card is a few years old, so it may be more similar to the PVR250. You could try starting with a PVR250 definition and modifying it to match your card, but also set INIT_MSP=0 and INIT_MODE=DEFAULT.
