When I try to view any video from my video library I get an error message that says "Error: Failure playing back file." It doesn't seem to matter which file. I've tried many different files. The files play fine in media player, winamp and VLC so I suspect the problem is specific to my installation or settings. I have attached the log files for your attention.

Thank you,
Joel.

Do the file play in Windows Media Player?

You could also try switching video renderers from VMR9 Custom to VMR9. It might help.

Yes, the files play in Windows Media Player. I switched to VMR9 and now I do not get an error, but I get only a green and blue artifacts on the screen. We're getting closer Wink Here's a screenshot of what i see...

That's a static image, BTW. It doesn't change. It just shows that one image.

zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Also try the Overlay renderer since thats what WMP is most likely using.

Overlay manager does play back the video, however the output is limited to a square on the left side of the screen with a wide dark margin around the top, right and bottom sides. Here are the logs:

Quote:18:56:11.331 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters:

18:56:11.331 VERBOSE - Video Renderer
18:56:11.331 VERBOSE - MPEG Layer-3 Decoder
18:56:11.331 VERBOSE - XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder
18:56:11.331 VERBOSE - AVI Splitter

I'm not really sure, but I'm guessing it is somehow related to your system default decoder for this type of file. You could try an alternative ffdshow to see if it behaves differently.

I'm surprised WMP doesnt have the same problem though. VLC has its own decoder, so wouldnt be affected.

Also make sure your desktop is set to 32 bit colour.

Desktop is set to 32 bit color. I have an ultra-crappy video card in that machine (Riva/TNT2). (It's the only spare I had with s-video out.) Could that be the problem?

Possibly. I'd try another decoder though.

I'd also be testing it on your monitor before trying to get it working on the svideo out.
