I am using a very simple cable that worked well when I connected my laptop to the TV... Did not try the HT system pass-through with S-video yet.

particle Wrote:I struggled with this as well for a long time with my MVP especially the darkness issue, the redness I just adjusted the settings on my TV till I was happy. Interesting, is this a "receiver" with just an svideo switch, or something different? This is how I was hooking mine up at first, and the output is really not very good. What fixed it for me, is hooking it up through my VCR first. It really boosts the output up to "normal", and even seems to tame out the excessive reds.

Not for the faint of heart, but...
I have just released a new beta of ZProcess. Of interest to you guys is the colour correction that's now available... Be Warned! Beta means easily explodes... Seriously, I know how to run the new version, but my docs are still being rewritten. I hope you have luck dealing with this very common issue...

For anyone having this issue, you might want to try contacting Hauppuage. There has been at least one report on the sagetv message board that this is a known issue, and they will replace it under warranty... I don't know whether its true, might be worth it to email them and ask about it, I don't really want to lose mine for 10+ days as my MVP is my only TV source.

As I have both a D3A and an H3 MVP I did some experimenting with this problem. The D3A was plugged into the "main" TV (Sony widesreen) and worked fine.
When I got the H3, I connected it to the Sony 12" in the bedroom. Result - dark picture, lousy colours. Swopping the MVPs around almost solved the problem. The H3 woked fine on the widescreen, but plugging the D3A into the 12" and powering it on produced the same dark picture. However, after powering it off and on with the remote, the picture was perfect! This behaviour is repeatable. Using the D3A on any other TV also worked fine, so I suspect that it is an incompatibility between Sony and the MVP. Pat Rooney |
