All,

I've been living with an annoyance since around 97.x... Whenever I start GB-PVR, I can playback recordings or live TV exactly 8 times... For those first 8 times I have proper OSD displays and perfectly synchronized audio and video. On the 9th playback, I get a stutter at the very beginning and then playback starts--but the OSD displays are missing. Playback on the 9th play is also very jerky, but watchable. If I restart the GB-PVR app, I get another 8 plays before it needs resetting again.

I've attached debug logs for both GBPVR.exe and GBPVR.exe-native. I can see something in the exe-native log about it not finding a video decode filter on the 9th playback.

I'm not sure what's going on here and would really appreciate some help!

Thanks!

I'm aware of this happening with the Intervideo decoder, but I'm not sure why. For now just use a different decoder.

Do you have any suggestions on alternatives?

I uninstalled the Intervideo decoder, and now I've just got "System Default" available. When I playback now, I get a frozen video, but the audio plays. I also get a frozen OSD.

I'd tried the Cyberlink decoder--I never got an OSD to work there and the playback was jerky.

Surely there must be something that works?

I believe I've solved my own issue...

This thread was helpful:

The Ligos decoder seems to be working pretty well for the moment... It's getting me past the 8th playback fine. Hopefully I won't run into any other issues with it.

Thanks again, sub!

Please post where exactly you found that decoder, I'm at their website right now.

Actually, I'm having some new problems... Now I can't play shows that are recording, and the quality of that Ligos decoder leaves a lot to be desired...

Back to the drawing board. Sad

Ligos wasn't the answer.

I downloaded the NVIDIA purevideo trial. So far, this codec looks as good, or better than the Intervideo codec I was using. I'm using the "VMR9 Custom Renderer". I believe this codec uses the hardware MPEG-2 decoding in the GeForce4 MX440 that's in this system.

If this codec works well for the 30 day trial, I'll definitely toss a couple of bucks their way to buy it.

I'll also be tossing some cash to sub, too. I've been using GB-PVR for a couple of years now and it's been great... other than this Intervideo codec issue that's been nagging at me. :-)

The only thing that would improve GB-PVR would be to make the core system open-source!

Sorry, this is never going to happen. Lots of reasons, probably the most significant being the numerous non disclosure agreements I've signed along the way, but even ignoring these I wouldnt have made it open source anyway.
