Problems with avi playback

Hi,

I just tried to playback avis for the first time and had no success. I tried Overlay Manager as well as VMR7 (VMR9 does not work on my machine...). With Overlay GBPVR freezes and with VMR7 I get the message "Error: Falilure playing back file".

I attached my logs.

It doesnt look like its finding decoders for the type of video contained in the AVI. Can you play the file in Windows Media Player?

I just tried (up to now I used the VLC Player) and it does play stuttering and with audio out of tune. WM also states it would require codecs. I did install a complete set of dixv codecs but I seem to need something else...

Yeah, sounds like you'd need some other divx or xvid decoder if the ones you installed arent doing the job.

As stated on the Micrisoft Web Help I tried running the DixectX Diagnostics Tool. Microsoft states to switch on the DirectDraw feature wich seems to be not supported by my machine. Do you recon I need DirectDraw or shall I simply trying to install other codecs and if which do you recommend?

Sorry, I dont know. I probably would have gone hunting for another decoder.

I got it solved by checking with Gspot for the required codecs. After installation of additional xvid codecs it now works from within GBPVR but funny enough Windows Media Player still stutters and asks for codecs...

Anyway thanks for directing me in the right direction.
