Or the HIP Guide. I'll be updating this again soon after I resolve a few more issues.

I was trying to set up the hauppauge MCE remote that is pictured on the far right of this link:
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/MCERemotes

I thought I ran through the wiki page instructions correctly, but when I went to set up the buttons nothing happens in the HIP setup utility. I get to this point:

"In the main configuration window of HIP, make sure that ‘Program 1’ is selected. Next click ‘Add value’. A small window will open. Once it says, ‘press a key to continue’, this means HIP is now waiting for you to ‘teach’ it a button on the MCE remote. Aim the MCE remote at the receiver and press the ‘play’ button. HIP will ask you to confirm, so just press the play button again."

Then when I press the play button nothing happens. I do see the IR receiver light flashing when I press the button.

The basic functions of the remote worked before I upgraded the driver for it to use HIP. And I can revert back to the original driver to get it to work. But I wanted to customize it to get the most use out of it.

I am using Vista Home Basic along with the newest HIP revisions.

Can anyone think of what I might be doing incorrectly?

hmm, not sure if that driver [alternate MCE driver] can work in Vista...
sounds like that's the problem...
there's a way to configure HIP with the regular driver but it's not perfect..
check to see if the alternate driver works with Vista, i know they changed driver arch. in Vista..

eww, plus that's the Hauppauge remote...they are kinda weird..tho the driver shouldn't care, same beanbag..
but you may need to remap some keys..

Yes, I believe so. I have the version 2 (which I believe is the same minus the four color buttons at the bottom). By default, the "Green" button will try to start the MCE interface. As I'm running normal XP, it did nothing, but with the help of HIP I made it run GBPVR.

The green button is only configurable if you have the alternate driver installed. You may have trouble with the alternate driver in Vista. Don't know though, no experience

Not quite...on my uncles i set the green button up as the button that switches between fullscreen and inset tv screens...cant remember what this is off the top of my head... equivalent of the 'go' button?

anyway, this is using the original driver and HIP. ditched the altenative driver due to it being unreliable after resuming from standby/hibernate on the pvr....a bit critical on a headless boxBig Grin

I'm now using Event Ghost. It has native support for many remotes, including my Microsoft MCE 2005. It's SOOO much easier to use and more powerful than HIP. I'll be posting an Event Ghost guide this weekend, along with my config file.
