Hi all,

I've setup GBPVR in my PC to utilise a Nova T 500 which I bought after my TV bit the dust.

Now the PC spec is

XP Pro SP2
PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.833GHz
RAM: Samsung 512 Pc2700 DDR333 184pinn Original Module x2
GRAPHICS: MEDIAMAX 256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9600 PRO TV-Out DVI-I Retail Box
HDD's: 20GB IDE Master with OS, 120GB IDE Slave for recordings and media only, 40GB IDE for music only but currently awaiting IDE to SATA Interface to hitch it up.

So not bad spec back in 2004 when I built it but not great by todays standards, I plan to build a proper HTPC but am awaiting the funds to do so.

Anyway enough waffling, my GBPVR is setup ok or so I thought, I can watch TV, view the TV Guide, Search the Guide, use my remote etc etc, I planned two recordings from standby on my first night and I got the following

Two recordings which crash GBPVR, refuse to play in Media Player 11, Media Player Classic and Nero Show Time.

So I had another fiddle with the settings, dunno which I changed then I ended up with this

Two recordings which one plays ok through GBPVR and the mentioned viewers, one does the same crashing thing I got earlier.

Now tonight I recorded a programme whilst web browsing, once it was done I get the same thing again crashing the GBPVR and any viewers.

What's going wrong?

If my recordings worked out I would be very happy, I appreciate that maybe my PC can't handle it, Live TV and the Guide take some while to start up, i can also get the Timeshift Mode to work which is good, so it's only the recording issue that is bothering me.

Is it because I'm recording to the slave HDD?

Any assistance is useful, I have searched a little but not found anything plus I've looked through wiki.

Cheers

What mux do you use for recording?

Play one of the files to reproduce the crash, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Thanks for the speedy reply, a recording is due to finish in 20 mins, i'll see how that goes and also post the log file.

Still not too up on the lingo yet, erm MUX being used is the Cyberlink? It was in the options of my config, I have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack Installed and Nero 7 Ultra.

It's an awesome piece of kit once it is setup right, took me two nights to get it nearly finished.

Cheers

welcome!

You have an almost identical setup to mine (cpu, graphics card, tuner) although I have my mobile 2500+ clocked to 2Ghz - which is enough.

what decoder and mux are you using?

It's possible that your signal strength is too low, resulting on corrupted recordings. check out this util

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthr...417&page=2

I do get periodic breakup of freeview channels even though my signal strength is reported as high - not sure what the cause is really.

one thing: as your boot disk is only 20Gb, it might not be running at max PATA (IDE) speed. IDE controllers run at the speed of the slowest devie on the channel, which might be causing the 120GB drive to run slower that it can. However I don;t believe that this is the cause of your problems.

[edit] tooo slow. serves me right for spending 10mins on reply...

[edit2] just selecting the cyberlink mux does't mean you have one installed. the logs Sub asked for should show what mux gbpvr is trying to use but there is also a muxchecker.exe program in the gbpvr folder that will show you which mux(s) gbpvr can find.

[edit3] Mux's can be downloaded from here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=25630

see here for installing (registering mux's) http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=7229

Ok here we go, there is a 28 logs in the folder, is this normal? I admit I di give up early on and uninstall but I plucked up the courage to go back again.

I think these are the right ones.

Ok its currently using the Microsoft DVR-MS mux. I'd initially recommend installing the Cyberlink mux v5.0.0.1307 from the link gEd give above, then try a couple of recordings with that. If you've still got problems, post the GBPVR.exe-native.log file again and I'll take another look.

Ok I think I am sorted, a recording after the Cyberlink Mux installation went well, works in gbpvr and in external viewers.

I'll monitor it however, the files are outputting to mpegs now and not dvr-ms but obviously I assume it's to do with the Mux change?

I thought I was finshed moaning but one last part is that viewing back stuff within gbpvr can be problematic at times if trying to skip forwards, I may just use WMP11 to view back recordings and wonder if my setup is too slow?

Thanks everyone for there help so far.

You should be fine with your setup. What exactly happens when you try to skip forwards?
