I know this is extremely fundamental Big Grin but i have just set up GBPVR with a Hauppauge 1600 and so far i have channels 1-88. My only question is is it possible to view the digital channels (Speed, Sundance, etc..) with this card or any card/s for that matter. I noticed that my card comes with an ATSC tuner but as i understand it this is only for digital channels that the cablecos transmit over the air which is minimal. Is there a way to subscribe to over the air digital?

Basically i want to know if there is any way of viewing all the anolog/digital/HD channels i have now on my Motorola DC6412 from RCN in GBPVR and using its functionality on them

You can use your HVR1600 to get the widest range of channels currently possible, including analog channels, over the air digital (received via antenna), and unencrypted digital cable channels. It is not currently possible to directly record or view the other encrypted HD digital cable channels.

You can of course use the analog svideo/composite inputs on your card to record standard definition copies of these transmissions from the output of your set top box.

what cable co. do you have?
have you scanned for channels with the BDA side yet?
i'm curious as to how many you find...thinking of moving to cable from dish..

for the ones you find, they're worth having, as they're usually HD..Smile
if it's anywhere as good as basic cable i'd be happy...

so, like someone mentioned before, is it possible to run the cable to the cable box, and then the tv-out to a device like hauppauge 1600? But then if you do that setup, can you use GB PVR to record and change channels as well as record?, or must you use cable providers menus(i have comcast in chicago)

My cable box doesnt have a firewire and just have the in and out of a coax

You can connect the audio and video from the cable box to the 1600 and record shows but they will be in standard definition. You can use the IR blaster that comes with the 1600 to change channels if Hauppauge supports your cable box. The range on the blaster is very limited and has to be placed very precisely.

If I do route from cable set top box to hauppage on PC, do i need to change any configuration inside of GB PVR? Like change sources not to internal tuner? Can I also still do stuff like pause live PV on GBPVR if i run through cable box? What would be the disadvantages of doing this?

Thanks for your responses

no drawbacks except for the resolution and possible noise from the rf cable but otherwise it's same as using svideo...

to setup, set cap source to 'fixed channel, external tuner' and fill in the channel you get out of the cable box..

then go to hauppauge's blastcfg and search for your box, test and confirm working...then go into config and set cap source to use haupblast.exe as external channel changer and you should be set..Smile
