I was just wondering if I can use gbpvr on my copy of Windows Server 2003 or if I'll have to reinstall my copy of XP? I was told on another forum that server 2003 may not work so that's why I was checkin in here first. The system requirements page makes no mention of Server 2003.

Thanks - Mike

Well I did another search and found my answer to be "yes". I quess my only question is do I have to install the Microsoft .NET 2.0 runtime installed on this? If so, is there a way to tell if I already have it installed?

Thanks - Mike

You will need .NET 2.0 and possbily a newer version of Windows Media Player, not sure what server 2003 comes with.

go in c:\windows\Microsoft.Net\framework and each directory will be a .NET version

I built my GBPVR box on Windows Server 2003. The only real issues I have is that I haven't been able to get the VMR9 to work by default, I usually have to go with the Video Overlay. Not sure if that is a Win2003 issue or a driver/video card issue.

Also the biggest disappointment for me is that the PVRX2 will not run in a terminal services window.(*gasps/screams/chokes*) Or at least I haven't figured out a way to get it to run in one. I do everything on that box with Terminal services. It just sits in my nice Air Conditioned closet quietly humming along. I actually had to cut a hole in the wall and run some PVC piping through to route a monitor cable out to my desk so I could setup a keyboard and mouse to it. =) Maybe at some point I'll post some pics. =p

Does it run as a system service so you don't have to leave your server logged in???

I don't mean to speak out of turn, but in regards to your "logged in" question, if you're running the interface on this box, then I believe you will have to be logged in. If you're just running it as a recording service, then you should be good to go and can skip logging in interactively.

It's not difficult to make Win2k3 act like XP for boot up and such though, so you'll still be okay if you want to run the full interface. I'm running Win2k3 and have it auto-login, and launch PVRX2 just as I did in XP.

One tip for Win2k3, by default windows has Video Acceleration turned nearly off. Crank that back up or your Live TV and Playback will look like a slideshow Smile.

Also, I'm getting a half second jitter maybe every 25-45 minutes in both live and recorded playback, but I think that's my crappy USB Wifi adapter, not the OS. I have a PCI-E Wifi card on the way though.

Same question. I have an unused license of Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and I'm considering using it for a GB-PVR/Media server. I asked on the SiliconDust forum if the HDHomeRun drivers would work and received the following reply:

jafa Wrote:VLC will work, but BDA based applications will not as Windows Server does not include the Windows BDA components.

Seeing that several people here are using GB-PVR in Server 2003, I'd like to inquire if there are any additional instructions, tips and tricks on top of the regular installation procedure on Windows XP/Vista. I'm not really using it as a domain controller or anything, but I do need it for GPT support for >2TB volumes. The machine I'm planning on installing it on will not be used for playback so DirectX or video drivers aren't much of a concern. As far as I'm aware, the only GB-PVR related stuff it needs are the following:
GB-PVR Recording Service
EnhancedWebAdmin
MovieWiz
AnimeLibrary

I realize Vista has GPT support but that one, I'd have to buy.

Thanks!
