I have been using GBPVR for a while and have always had to run the Hauppauge Services first in order for the MVP device to aquire the dongle.bin sftware.

I installed tftpd32 on my workstation and configured it for DHCP. It leased an address to MVP but for some reason the MVP unit will not pull down the bin file. Can I push it up to it manually using TFTP? What port?

When the MVP is sending the bootp request shouldn;t the GBPVR service be listening on that port and respond? What port it bootp?

I noticed in TFTP a box for boot file. SHould I have dongle.bin referenced in here?

Firewall is disabled.

Here is the log.

Any ideas.

TIA and thanks for all the input on the previous posts.

GBPVR provides the tftp service so all you would need from tftp32 is their dhcp service. Also in using dhcp you won't need bootp. However your logs don't indicate that the mvp has received an ip address.

Maybe I had a similar problem before. When the mvpserver is started before the MVP has recieved an ip then the mvpserver will not recognise the mvp. try starting the dhcp server and only after the MVP got its ip start the mvpserver.

If this works and you would loke to automate this a simple batch file with a sleep command will do. There is such command in the microsoft windows 2003 resource kit which you can install in xp as well.

Thanks for the response.

I'm a step closer.

With waiting for the leased address to be sent to the MVP it was able to pull dongle.bin. Log file showed blocks being sent. I get as far as it recognizing the machine which has GBPVR. However, when I save the changes and it boots itself the MVP displayus on the TV that the "previously saved settings.....not be found". So it stays in a loop where it is doing the netowrk config.

Try disconnecting the power from the MVP, wait a couple of mins and then reconnect the power...

The problem maybe with the DHCP server as I have a similar issue with Happauges software. I get to where is displays "Videos Music etc..." When I click on Videos it restarts the MVP. I am going to try and find another DHCP server solution. I'll post back the results.

Thanks all for the input

That crash isn't related to you DHCP, since just sending a screen and responding to a key presses all require that the socket was connected and a valid ID was present. One of the easiest ways to crash several versions of the Hauppauge software was to have a the file extension in all caps. Of course using the Hauppauge software doesn't mean you've got dhcp because they use bootp.

You can always simply use XP's ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

Ok-

I think I have narrowed it down to a very specific issue.

When Dongle.bin is loaded from Hauppauge sftwre and then I stop that MediaMVP services and start GBPRV everythnig is fine.

I copied that exact same dongle.bin into the dongle directory of GBPVR.

If I try and start GBPVR 1st and it loads dongle.bin (as is evident in the log) then the MVP gets stuck in an infinte loop where is states it can find the server in the previusly saved.....

I am having a difficult time finding different version of dongle.bin. IMHO that is really the only thing left to experiment with.

Running GBPVR 1.16,

This is the situation I would expect if dhcp wasn't working.

Well-

Thanks for all your help. At this point I am back to an error about MAC addresses (which I thought was a netbios issue that was resolved
