So i'm sure this is a great program. In fact with all the problems i'm having it's still the best i've found. Perhaps it's because i'm new at this, but i have no idea. So here are my problems...

I have Comcast digital cable (at least it says it's digital) hooked from a RCA out on my Motorola DC700 STB to the SVideo input on my HVR-1600. I'm pretty sure i get all the channels i care about (2 to 71), but i can not get GB PVR to work properly. I'm using the YApi2XML EPG (both CT TV and Schedules Direct did not work at all) and it kinda works.
But when i go into the guide and select a show, it will say what i've selected at the bottom, then type in a number at the top, then change to a completely different channel. Just like in this screen shot...
you can see i'm trying to watch X-Files (which was on channel 32) then it types in 18 (at the top) but changes the channel to 102 (you can see behind the title and time bar)
So to me that seems very messed up. If i choose something different from the guide, it types a different number but still never what i select.

Also if i use the Happauge remote to manually type in a channel number, it will go to that channel. WTF.

My second problem is not quite as weird. When im watching something in normal tv mode it's in a small almost 4:3 box with large boxes on the sides, but when i change it to Time Shift mode, then it fills the whole of my TV screen. if i change the channel, it goes back to small again, then i switch to Time Shift mode and its full screen again. I assume this has something to do with the way it's recording, but for the life of me i cant figure out where this configuration is.

I appriciate any help anyone can offer. i've been at this for about 2 weeks and have made little progress. Thanks for reading.

no screenshot but have you checked the channel numbers in the channels tab in config.exe

Does pressing F7 help when watching tv to change the aspect ratio.

I'm sure there is a good reason for it. If you post the logs, along with a description of what channel you tried to change to, and what really happened, then I'll take a look.

I'd double check that the capture source channel list has the correct channel numbers listed.

I had a similar problem with the SchedulesDirect EPG. One channel shows in the EPG and a different channel was used when changing channels. I "fixed" it by deleting all the channels in the config screen, emptying the EPG and re-updating the EPG. Near as I can figure it, the XML file from ShedulesDirect got corrupted in the download.

ok so here are the logs. it's still doing the same thing as i've described previously. when i select something from the tv guide, it will type out a number at the top center of the screen, then it will go to another channel all together. for example, i selected something on Discovery which is channel 45, then it typed out 10 at the top of the screen, then it changed the channel to 105.
i have checked in the config and all the channel numbers are listed correctly (it says 'DSC' is 45, etc)

also thank you gEd, hitting F7 changed it to fill mode which stretches to fit my tv even when not in time shift mode.

thanks for looking everyone.

oh and in an unrelated problem, i'm having trouble arranging the little red led blaster from my hauppage remote so that it can be read by the STB. if its too far away, it wont work; if it wiggle a little, it wont work. right now i have it taped onto the STB but its not very sturdy. any suggestions?

I havn't looked at my Ir thingie yet, but it looks like the sender has some double sided tape on it for holding it to the STB.

I'd try that.
It's clear so it shouldn't block the IR.
