Hi all,
I recently changed somethings about my system:
Old...
p3 1ghz
512 SDRAM
320gb ata Hard disk
Ati Radeon 9550 AGP8x (mobo supports agp 4x) 256mb
HVR-1600
haupauge remote

New:
p4 2.8ghz
768 ddr2 ram
320 gb ata hard disk
nvidia 7900 with dual HDMI ports PCIe 16x 256mb
hvr-1600
iMon remote

Basicly all of my recordings are super choppy like maybe 5 frames a second. Are there any known concerns with the nvidia? I have the latest drivers. (got from website because I don't have a disc) But so far my ATI Radeon was Waaaayyyy better. I tried changing the MPEG 2 playback codec (I have about 7 available. It played perfect with the Cyberlink DVD codec but the crashed when I tried to exit from the show back to GBPVR's recordings menu.

Also It will only run VMR9 Custom. If i try full screen exclusive it's so slow and choppy it's unusable, and EVR says the system does not support the codec required. my ATI card would run all three with no noticeable difference.

If anyone has any idea whats going on here it would be of great help. if you concur the nvidia card is poor could you recommend a good pcie 16x card?

I don't have HD TV, but it played DVD's smoothly, and it ran gbpvr at 1280x720p. I'm not 100% what you mean by if it played HD. But it did work very well for the little power it had.

you didnt say what you were trying to play
this makes a big difference in what could be wrong (SD=720x480) or (HD1280x720 and above)this is refering to the captured video not what you play it back at

does it play ok in windows media player (not media player clasic or vlc they use there own decoders)
when it crashed was it the whole pc or just pvrx2?

Well, I tested it... I record tv at the medium setting, so I don't know what this plays back as, but it is indeed choppy in WMP even after playing with the settings. I am trying to playback the mpeg 2 recordings from TV, sorry.

Also it just crashed PVRX2.exe.

But wait theres more. I was having trouble ID'ing the Video card, all i could read on it was nvidia p455 turns out model p455 covers the quadro fx 1500 as well. I recheck the device driver indeed it shows quadro fx 1500 so I am reloading the proper drivers, I'll post back the results.

wellthat didnt seem to be the problem. I'm still stuck with a computer with sketchy playback performance. any help is greatly appreciated. when the video is playing, the cpu shows 10% usage, but trying to go through the WMP menus is like working on a 486... something's not right.

Now I'm pretty sure this forum isn't even designed to handle this problem. So I was playing with the WMP. My mouse is really jumpy like the computer is completly bogged down. But if I play a mp3 the mouse starts moving smoothly again. Then I was playing with the WMP graphics acceleration settings, turned it all the way down. hey the recording plays good. closed WMP, and reopened with a different recording, very slow performance, mouse is jerky....

I opened dxdiag, and tried the tests, full screen will not even play back the tests it's so slow. So i turned off the direct draw, direct3d, and agp texture. tried another recording, works great. closed WMP, and tried reopening another recording, mouse is slow, recording plays back horrible.

no matter what setting i change, it only works for loading a file once. but any time i load a mp3 the mouse and computer smooth right out.

What the heck? I'm lost but will keep pluging away at what i know how to do. hopfully someone has an idea of what to do.

you have loaded to many different decoder up and or 2 are getting in the way (been used when they dont need to be)
you need to get gspot and graph edit
open a media file with graph edit and see what decoders are been used
post a pic

also can i have a list of all your audio /video decoders?

here is the screen shot from graph edit. I don't know hwo to use this program, so I hit render media file...

Also i thought it worthy to note the the mouse is very slow even when WMP is closed.

how do i post a list of all the decoders?
