Hello all, I've been searching the forums for awhile now and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... I have a new install of 1.2.13 and am using a WinTV-HVR 1600.

I have no problem using the software that ships with the tuner card seeing tv channels.

I also have no problem seeing the channels when in the digital channel mapping in the config tool when I have live preview checked, if I don't, it doesn't work here either.

In PVXR2 it doesn't work at all; with or without being checked, live tv or recording.

I am using XP. I only have the ATSC/QAM input plugged on the tuner (nothing's connected to the analog input).

One other bizarre thing that I am seeing that may or may not be related: menu options that are currently selected in PVRX2 are indecipherable... meaning I can't read it (and sometimes don't even know what the option is!)

Being new, what do you need from me to help me debug?

Thanks in advance!

Try watching live tv, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

On a TV or PC monitor? If on a TV, how are you connected to the TV (HDMI/DVI/Component/Svideo/Composite)?

OK, just went and tried liveTV... got no sound and no picture. The logs are attached. I believe I have the preview livetv option checked. I am just trying to use my monitor on my computer... I thought I would start small before adding more complexity...

oh, and here's a screencap of that other strange effect I was seeing... Notice the thumbs (I think that's what is supposed to be in the bottom row) are either not there or severely messed up...

That looks like your video card or its drivers have some direct3d issues. I'd look for newer drivers, or a new video card.

I'd try two things. 1) This suggestion from the survival guide thread:
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...ostcount=8, and 2) different decoders:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm

After installing these, following the instructions on those pages, select them as the active video and audio decoder on the playback tab of the config app.

Ok, so I downloaded my videocard's latest drivers as well as directx 9.c (just in case) and now I have the video. But no sound. The video skips every few seconds, but other than that it is great...can't figure out the lack of sound though...

The missing audio is probably related to the audio decoder. Did you the AC3Filter audio decoder I mentioned above?

Maybe try:

So I downloaded the two codecs that you first recommended and selected them in playback and now I have video and sound, its just choppy, so now I am wondering if my system doesn't have the horsepower, specifically the video card...

pentium4 2.54GHz w/512 MB RAM (hmmm, maybe the RAM? just realized this)
NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 (64MB on the card?)

If the channels are high def, then it'll be your video card letting you down. An nvidia 6600 or higher is recommended fo the north american style HD video.
