Hello,
I am wondering if you would release a linux version for this program. I'm getting sick of windows and two programs keeps me there, one is GB-PVR and if you would port it for linux that would help me out alot.

So what do you say about a linux version?

Sorry, there is zero chance. I have a hard enough time finding the time to support GB-PVR under Windows.

The technologies in used in GB-PVR are Windows specific (BDA, Directshow, .Net etc), which means Linux would be a total rewrite, and would probably take me well over a year of effort. I definitely dont have a year or so of development time spare.

You may find that mythtv is more to your liking. A free linux based pvr... Designed and built on Linux. I think there might also be another couple of linux based pvrs, but MythTv the only one I've played with.

If you want an Out of the box install, then I'd recommend KnoppMythTv

Sub has enough problems trying to keep up with his existing workload to add a whole conversion to linux as well.

or you could run a dual boot machine. or you could run gbpvr on a virtual machine from within linux (or vice versa).

I just have a small server with big disks sat away recording and serving my needs and couldn't really care less what o/s was running on it.

I think quite a large percentage of users on here ended up running GBPVR under windows after being exasperated with linux. I started off with a TV card and google brought me in touch with endless linux PVR software. What a pain. Don't get me wrong, I like linux as a server o/s, but for the rapidly expanding hardware base for tuners and extenders it is a nightmare.
With Microsoft publishing specs for drivers and video it has made support for 100's of tuners possible.

The 'one year' estimate included the assumption I'd find stuff to build on.

Sorry, there is no way its going to happen. If you need linux, you'd need to look at other options like MythTV.

I dont really like stickies, and try to keep them to a minimum - it means I have to scroll further to see the real posts.

Also the question isnt that common. There seems to have been three threads about it this year. I see alot of other questions that are asked more often.
