Questions about: audio noise, pausing w/remote & epg

First post here, take it easy on me plz.

I love this app, as I have tried most everything else out there.

But, I have a few questions.

1. when I'm watching tv through the gbpvr, when the screen gets bright due to a scene where maybe there: outside, alot of light in the room... mostly due to the alot of "white color/brightness" on the screen, I get a high pitch tone that comes across the speakers.

2. what am I missing about setting up the epg. do you really have to pay for Schedules Direct ? !@#$%

3. Can someone please change this prg where you can use Titan TV? Best free epg out there imho

4. with my Windows Media Ctr remote, I cant get to work with gbpvr, only my ati remote that came with my tuner card for some reason(but mce remote worked with beyond tv). And when I press 'pause' when watching live tv, it pauses for a few seconds then unpauses itsself - HOWEVER when i actually use the mouse button and pause the pause button on the screen, it 'holds' the pause and does not unpause itsself.

5. why is it i can only change tv channels by using the keyboard buttons, or the buttons up/dn on my remote - But NOT when i directly type in the numbers on the keyboard? E.G.,

If i want to watch ch 20 - the history channel and I press 2 and 2 on the keyboard/remote, the "22" show up on the screen as if it received/knew I pressed those buttons, but does not change the channel.

HOWEVER if you type 3 digits 1,1,1, 1,1,5, 1,2,1, etc., it will change a channel on the screen, but 111, 115, 1211, etc is not a real channel as I only have analog cable tv pumping into my tuner card.

I dont have 3 digit channels it only goes to like 65 or something I'm using this as an example to say 3 numbers typed on a keypad works, but not 2. GRRRRR, im about to give up using this as a tv/pvr soon.

5. Sometime this prg just locks up when you switch channels when you hold the channel up/dn buttons. Why is this?

Sorry for the long winded post for being my first post here, but I LOVE this program. Kooodos to the ones that wrote the code. Phenominal prg.

I am no newbie to computers. Had electronics 4 yrs in highschool, one 3rd place in state VICA computer repair competition, building pc's for home use and recording studios since 1996, avionics technician on Boeing/MD airplanes, know networking pretty decent for not going to an IT school. I'm no idiot, but no genious either - however some things about this prg I just dont get.

Is is this buggy? Because if there is something in the settings, man oh man, I'm missing it.

Are you using some RF adapter for connecting to an old tv?

Most north american users here use the Schedules Direct service. Its cheap, reliable, and easy to use.

There are also some other free options for north american listings, though legally a bit gray. The most popular of these is mc2xml. See http://mc2xml.110mb.com/

No.

Just remember "free" web sites containing listings doesnt mean the company wont sue the arse of anyone that tries to "steal" the off their website.

Did you set the remote type to MCE in the config app?

Did you try pressing Enter/OK after typing the numbers? This is required because numbers are used for other things too, and depends on what you press next.

Reproduce the problem then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look. Maybe try turning on 'live preview mode' in the config app if you havnt already.

when i use the ATI turner card remote, i can at least type in multiple numbers just as on the keyboard - when i use my Zalman MCE remote, i can use the up/down arrow buttons(like cursor arrow buttons on the kybd), however I can not type more than 1 digit on the mce remote and have it show up on the screen, and the ok button dont work - eg., if i type 22 on the mce remote, only a single 2 shows on the screen.

Yes, MCE was set in config menu.

also, i can not get the net radio to work ... every time you try to click on a genre, eg dance, rock, etc, i get a message that says something like, "you have stored no favorites yet" i dont understand this.

I guess ill just break down and get a subscription to the Schedule guide.

Do the numbers disappear when you press enter? I assume so.

Its most likely that the channel numbers dont match those that you expect, so you're typing invalid channel numbers. Check the channel numbers on the 'Channels' tab of the config app. Only the channel numbers listed there will be accepted as real channel numbers. (given your other question about epgs, maybe you dont have an EPG setup with channel numbers?)

Yes, MCE was set in config menu.

To be honest, I've never seen a Zalman MCE remote. There could be some different with this remote than the normal MCE remotes that everyone else is using.

If anyone knows someone at Zalman, ask them to send me a sample and I'll get GB-PVR working with it.

I dont know. Its definitely not a GB-PVR problem though. Sounds like some electrical interference or something similar.

The net radio screen downloads this info from the shoutcast website. Unfortunately they changed the website a couple of weeks ago (for the first time in 5 years), breaking this logic. I've corrected it for the next release, which is due in a couple of weeks. If you dont want to wait, you can download the 'Web Radio' plugin and give that a try.

okay, the numbers are not disappearing, on either the remote or kybd. so i tried the on screen keyboard, and no help there either.

I'll have to try to resize the window to make it smaller to see if the noise problem goes away.

Yes, it can do it without requiring enter/ok if you've enabled live preview mode. If channel numbers arent working for people then the usually either because they're entering the wrong channels numbers (which was your problem) or that they need to press enter and werent.

Sorry, I dont know. I doubt there is a GB-PVR setting that will help. You could maybe try some third party MCE remote software like HIP.

It's funny about the netradio thing, i havve a 1TB drive that has movies on it, and my wife only cares about net radio

What is HIP? What does that have to do with the remote?

I've never personally used HIP, but its software that some people use for customising their MCE remotes. They can map button presses on the remote, to fake keystrokes which are sent to GB-PVR (or other apps).

1. when i load up the gbpvr, and i scroll up/dn between menu choices, as it filps/rolls from one menu choice to another, the menu jumps/flickers and the text gets really BIG on the roll. If you havent seen this b4, maybe I can take a quick video of the screen and send it to you.

2. Any chance of ever adding console emulators (nes snes, sms, genesis, etc) to this program later? My oh my, that would be awesome.

The selected menu option is a little bigger than the others, but not much. Post a screenshot of what you're seeing and I'll tell you if its normal.

I have no interest in building in this type of functionality. There is a GameZone plugin that does this already though. See the wiki.
