While reading the requirements on GBPVR for this card I see that it is supported, my question however is and I know it is going to sound silly but do I need a splitter from my main cable to the HVR1600 in order to get both analog and digital, or can I just plug on in and it will work?

Also can you while recording a show watch another show on a different live channel?

Thanks

Yes, you will need a splitter from the main cable, if you plan on feeding your TV set or STB at the same time. If you plug the cable into the HVR-1600 card, it will work fine. Someone else will have to answer the question about analog receiving on this card, as I think it will only work with GBPVR on digital formats.

No, you cannot record one show while watching another show using only one 1600 card. If you install 2 of them, then you can watch one thing and record something else.

If you have the signal split to the TV set, then you would be able to watch something live on TV and record something else.

Good luck, and good choice. I bought 2 more of them today to outfit another PVR.
IBM P4, 3Ghz with 1GB RAM
500GB Storage (on this one), HVR-1600 capture card
ATI-1050 256MB, and more as I think it up!
OK, I finally bought a HD TV. Glad I had some stuff recorded to watch!

yes, you need to split the main cable into each connection. The digital must have a clear qam channels which have mostly local channels. You need to setup two captures in config one for analog and the other digital.

If your cable provider does not have clear qam channels, you use attenna to get over the air local channels for digital capture side of HVR1600.

if you're going running the same cable line to the 1600 (ie analog cable and clear QAM or analog ota and atsc ota) then you will need a splitter as the analog and digital tuners have seperate inputs. as for watching 2 shows at a time...you can...IF one is analog and the other is digital...

Yes - I believe you can record one show using one of the two tuners (let's say the analog tuner) while watching another on the other tuner (the digital tuner in this example).

Other than PCIE being the difference between the 1600 and 1800 is there any other differences that you guys know of?

Because here is my thing, I have a PCI PVR 250 and I know the 1600 is PCI and my system of course only has one PCI. I was hoping to leave my 250 in and add the 1800 as a secondary card. So that is why I was wondering if they had any other differences.

Thanks

The HVR 1600 has two inputs. One is for analog, and one is for digital, so you need a splitter to feed both if you want to see both. Inside GBPVR, they are treated like two totally separate devices. Of course, if you want to feed your TV, you need a splitter for that too. I had a lot of trouble with too many splitters in my house. The 1600 needs the best signal you can give it for good reliable QAM reception. I ended up splitting my main cable as it came into the house and sending one half directly to the 1600, with all the other TVs and recorders (and there are lots of them) sharing the remaining half of the signal. I tried to install an amplifiers, but never could get them to work well with the 1600.
