picture capture clarity

wondering how everyone's picture quality of the tv capture during live tv is. i am currently using a hauppauge 150 at a resolution of 1600x1200. at full screen, my picture quality is a bit fuzzy close up. has anyone gotten a crystal clear picture? if so, how?

the only modifications i've done were pushing sharpness up to 7 in graph edit.

I was having a similar problem with a pvr-150 and 1152X854 resolution.

Then my coax leading to the card died, which was a blessing. I replaced the coax with a monster cable coax and I also replace my splitter to a monster cable splitter and now the picture rivals brocast quality. It made a huge difference!

how do i assure i'm recording in high? i can manually set this when i choose to manually or schedule a recording, but i don't know what i'm capturing at in live tv. any ideas?

no. i understand how to record in two ways:

1- when your watching a channel on live tv, you can start recording.
2- when you are spanning channels in the tv guide, you can select a show and set it to be recorded.

what i was asking was how do i know what record quality i am using. i know when i am in tv guide and schedule a show to be recorded, it gives me the option of setting the quality. but if i am in live tv, either watching buffered stream or recording, how do i know what record quality it is using?

i am asking this because in your first reply you said "... and record high in GB-PVR.". where you referring to tv guide scheduled recording, or live tv buffered recording and manual recording? if you were referring to the later, then my question stands as how do i know what recording level it is using.

I don't think there is any reason to capture higher than 720x480 (NTSC) Actually 640x480.(Unless you want DVD compatability) TV's cannot view higher than 480 lines, and the source isn't that high anyway. Plus if you are viewing on a PC, set your resolution to the same as the source (or the next higher) that way, it won't stretch the pixels and will look much more like a TV. (Unless you have a flat panel, then set it to it's native resolution.)

i guess i should have mentioned from the start that i am viewing at 1600x1200 on a 21" flatpanel.

To change the bitrate in livetv, go in to the configuration setup and go into the capture src section.

Change the drop down box from medium to live tv, hit edit and change the bitrate there.
