I am looking to pick up a video card this weekend, and it has got to be pci as I have no AGP or pci-x. I am looking to do it for least $ possible, but not buy a crappy one either. I would really like to spend under $70, and get 64 or 128mb. I have never dealt with video cards before, but have installed other add-ons via pci. my computer is a p3 833 with 256 pc100 ram. I am going to buy this to boost the system to make it usable with my new pvr card (pvr-150) is this a good deal: http://www.compusa.com/adproducts/p...&pfp=ADPRODUCTS
?
thanks

is this a good card to use with gbpvr?
thanks

sorry about the link. I just went and got it, 9200se, for $50. someone just posted to me on another thread and told me to not open it, but to return it and get a GeForce FX 5200 cause he thinks the radeon is crap- has that been your experience? thanks

I am having some issues installing this card. Radeon 9200se. I put the card in and rebooted, went to bios and there is no option to disable onboard video. booted to windows and it is hanging on the start up screen. Did I need to remove some drivers or somehow change settings before I installed the card?
thanks

uninstalling the video/display drivers for your onboard video card (then rebooting w/ the new card installed, and old one disabled in bios) wouldn't hurt. of course you can always reformat and reinstall windows, that's usually the cure for most things.

Rock, try uninstalling the onboard drivers in safe mode (VGA display on XP boot or F8 just before the boot logo displays on 9x/ME). It doesn't load any video drivers & you should be able to get into your OS that way.

The fx5200 is a dx9 card, the 9200se is not so the fx5200 will do vmr 9 instead of vmr 7. Vmr allows certain tasks to be performed with less cpu usage that would otherwise be required (mind you many will agrue that the 5200 is not powerful enough to be usefull with vmr 9). Saying that I had a 9200se running fine in my htpc for a year. Quite a few motherboards will autodetect that a graphics card is in place and disable the onboard gfx card so thats why you might not have the option to disable it. Boot into safe mode as everyone else has said then remove the onboard gfx and install the standard vga drivers, reboot and install the 9200 drivers. If this doesn't work try moving the 9200se to another pci slot.

Thanks for the replies. I now have the 9200se running after booting to safe mode and disabling the onboard graphics. I have been fooling aroung with it since this is my first video card, (after 5 years with 8mb onboard) I have got my monitor looking sharp. I have hooked up my tv to the composite out and it is working well on playback, I can watch live tv now with vewry few glitches. My new need is for sharpness. My picture seems to be a bit fuzzy. I seem to remember seeing a reg edit procedure for tweaking gbpvr, could someone please point me to it? thanks

I'm not sure, but I think you might find something here:

or here:

the link to amontillado shows a reg edit to imprve sharpness, but the code he refers to "sharpnessvalue" is not in the drivers directory he says to look in.
