Does anyone know how to start PVRX2 from a batch file in Vista so that it gets focus?

I need to use a batch file to start PVRX2 ( in non-windowed mode) so that I can run other commands before starting PVRX2, e.g. switch to 2nd screen profile when I want to watch movies on the projector.

The batch (cmd) file uses the Windows START command to start PVRX2 as follows:

START "PVRX2" /ABOVENORMAL C:\....\PVRX2.EXE -FSE

This works fine under Windows XP. PVRX2 starts and gets focus.

But if I do exactly the same thing under VISTA, PVRX2 starts but does not get focus; the Vista taskbar is displayed and the PVR2 icon is flashing. This happens whether I use EVR, VMR9 Custom or VMR9 FSE.

I then have to use the mouse and click in the PVRX2 window to make the task bar go away and give focus to PVRX2 so I can use the remote. This is annoying enough to go back to XP!

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Have you considered using the "StartPVRX2" utility as found HERE?

I haven't tried it in Vista, but it's a god-send for me. Not only starts GBPVR in focus, but will return focus to it if something else steals focus away from GBPVR.

Yes that could be exactly what I need, thanks. I'll try it when the family next let me reinstall Vista!

The StartPVRX2 very nearly did the trick - it started PVRX2 and gave it focus just like it should. But when I exit PVRX2 (to do something else), StartPVRX2 of course carries on running and 20 seconds later fires PVRX2 up again.

I could have written a script to kill the process, but a quick google revealed this useful, tiny freeware utility HSTART which works like the START command used to under XP - just pop it in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder, change the batch file START command to use HSTART instead and bob's yer uncle, works like a charm.

Thanks for the help.

You can always pause StartPVRX2 of course, or change the delay before focus is once more given to PVRX2 - just click the tray icon.

This sounds like a very handy app...I will try it. I have a client that I put into standby, and nearly always does NOT turn PVRX2 back on upon coming out of standby (happens when I haven't rebooted in a while.) I even made a restart button on my harmony remote - i guess this way I don't need that anymore.
