Setup sound on HDMI

Today I setup a new machine with GBPVR upgrading my old machine running a 2 year old version of GBPVR, when I first tested it it worked fine sound came through the HDMI from my ATI 2600 card through to the TV, 1 hr later and there is no sound - though I can get sound through the speaker sockets I have checked the sound settings and all looks ok but I am not sure how this works - can someone explain what setting I should have to send sound through the HDMI connection? As I said it worked before then stopped after a couple of GBPVR crashes and a PC restart.

Sub assisted me yesterday on a related problem when recording BBC Hd, after downloading an AC3 filter my HDMI sound worked. Also I unfortunately use Vista and had to make the HDMI entry the default sound source in control panel.

So it is the codecs installed and used that pass the audio through to the video card?

Also, check your TV settings. When video comes via HDMI, audio settings in your TV is HDMI (or digital), Analog or Auto. Sometimes, when on Auto, it picks up the wrong source.
