I'm using Vista and Vista Codecs, and have DVD Playback Video Decoder set to System Default (the only choice). When I play a DVD, there isn't a menu item selector displayed, so I can't cursor around the menu and know what is selected. Any idea how to fix this?

A few people have had this over the years. It happens with some video decoders. Pretty much all you can do is switch to another video decoder. If you dont have any options listed other than 'system default', then you'll need to install a decoder.

I couldn't get the menu selections to show up with the Intervideo WinDVD codec either. I recently bought a new Dell PC that shipped with the Cyberlink codec on it, and the menu items work fine. I installed the Intervideo codec on the new system to try different combination for video and sound quality, and the menu items would not work with the WinDVD codec on that machine either.

I downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD, installed it, but still don't have a Video Decoder choice other than System Default on the DVD tab in Config.exe

What version of PowerDVD?

You might need to add the decoder name to the <SupportedDVDDecoders> section of config.xml

Use this directshow filter manager to check the decoder names so you can added them the setting I mentioned: http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

Let me know what the names are and if they way well or not.

How can I determine which filters are for DVD decoding that should be displayed on the DVD tab in config.exe?

The only filter that I could ever get to work properly with menus was the MPV decoder.

You have to try them an see if they work. They usually have names "Cyberlink something Video Decoder" or similar.
