Laggy Program

I have almost everything working, but the program itself is pretty laggy. When I open up PVRX2 and go to the guide, it takes a while for the listings to load up. It also tends to have a delay when I am switching channels or selecting channels.

This is a dedicated HTPC running Vista 32 Ultimate, 2gb ram, 2.4ghz AMD. ATIRadeon 2800 and two HVR1600 Hauppague cards.

Any idea why this might be happening.

Vista MCE runs totally smooth, but this could be a deal breaker for me. I would love to switch to GBPVR because of the EPG listings for digital sub-channels for OTA, but I may just have to deal with it in Vista MCE.

When you first start the app, it takes a while to load the EPG listings in the background, which depending on the number of channels and days of listings can take quite a hit on the system. After a couple of minutes (or lot less) it should finish this activity and be more responsive for the rest of the use.

If you leave it a few minutes before doing stuff, does it still seem laggy?

If it is this activity making you think this, it is removed in the next release (with the addition of an additional database index).

Which LiveTV mode are you running? Timeshift mode is much slower to start and change channels, since it has to start a buffer and let the buffer fill a little, then pass the buffer over to the playback process. I prefer Live Preview mode, which just hooks the tuner output directly to the decoding/rendering chain.

Your LiveTV mode is chosen in the lower left corner of the Misc tab in Config.

Another thing that people sometimes get wrong when setting up there capture source is to set the Channel Changer option to the 'MCE IR Blaster Plugin', when they're not really using an IR Blaster. This slows down channel changes. It should be set to 'none' unless you're controlling a set top box.

Sub, just letting it sit for a few minutes did the trick, but I will check on the other things you mentioned to make sure I don't do them by mistake.

Now I just need to get the harmony remote working right.

You should consider this improvement to help guide load time.
