After spending way to much time trying to get decent playback in GB-PVR. Does anyone have a sure-fire method on how to get good playback of .ts files (from UK DVB-T 'Freeview' source) with Windows XP (SP2) and an ATI HD4350.

After trying all codecs I can think of I've just cannot get good quality playback without one of or all of the problems in the thread title. I'm starting too think theyre maybe something other then codecs effecting this. Even VLC seems out of sync on the .ts files and even downloaded AVIs!

Help much appreciated  Sad

i'd try different drivers...or look for others who have one working...if they exist...
vlc's off? not good..tho also points to drivers..is that h.264 material?
also, try playing with the accel settings in dxvachecker...[cntrl-R]
notably: "HWUVD_ForceMPEG2" = "1" - Enables MPEG2 decoding using VMR9 with dual displays. and a couple others, more info here:http://home.comcast.net/~exdeus/ati-hd2x00/
look for settings that apply to 4000 models..
it will tell you what modes are missing if any, it's really usefull for diagnosing...
i found you can disable some of the accell to get it working with software codecs pretty good..[still using hardware deinterlacing]

i tried a while back and couldn't find any drivers that worked properly for 4xxx, but i didn't have enough time to play with it before i returned it for a 3450...
i uses the newer 2nd gen avivo engine, so any driver that works for higher cards should also work well on it..[46xx,48xx]

i just know that for 1st gen [2xxx-3xxx] avivo 8.11 works with full accell out of the box in XP..
i suspect it'll be easier to get this working in vista or win7 as that is what it was designed for...[dxva2] tho it should support dxva1 also..
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

I've had much of the same trouble with my 4550. I've more or less given up for now. I finally settled on Catalyst 9.4 with the corresponding AVIVO decoder. I set de-interlacing to the lowest setting (Bob I think? or was it weave?) in CCC. The output is quite good on 720p channels, and pretty tolerable on 1080i channels. There was one 480i channel that looked really bad, but thankfully they switched to 720p after the analog shutdown. Fast pans show the effect of the bad de-interlacing, but I can live with it for now.

Does the sound go further out of sync over time or does it stay consistent?

Did you tryed record to *.MPG using Cyberlink muxer + Cyberlink decoder?

Please, connect Graphstudio and post Graph, so we can look what is wrong.

Seems to be constant, although I've not watched for longer then 30mins while testing.

Yes, with similar results.

hoborg Wrote:Please, connect Graphstudio and post Graph, so we can look what is wrong.
Will do, but it looks normal.

I'm currently using 9.6 (the latest). Would dropping back to the version on the CD provided with the card be a good match?

Alot of time and money is invested into to this HTPC so I would prefer not to have to live with anything. It makes me wonder if it's worth trying a NVIDIA card - or would that just be changing one set of problems for another...?

pBS Wrote:is that h.264 material?
No, MPEG2 only.

Are you trying to say that that because the card has hardware decoding the choice of codec maybe irrelevant because it's always the card doing the work? It seems a bit hit and mess messing with registry settings.

what resolution to you have your display set to and do the problems disappear if you drop to a lower resolution?

I regularly watch .ts files in VLC on my old IBM T41 laptop over a wireless connection and have never had any problems (other than the timeline not showing). Panning is ok, lipsync is always fine. I don;t watch much stuff with tickertape and I haven;t played with deinterlacing.

I'm running 720x576 (same as TV) @60hz (only choice given by CCC).

This is probably a stupid question, but I assume you've got your refresh rate right? ie 50Hz or some multiple of 25 given you're in the UK?
