I had to change my video card, and this has been driving me NUTS.

I have a Radeon 4670 card, running Vista HomePremium, and I get really bad artifacts when using GBPVR; looks like it's deinterlacing artifacts (especially bad on telecined material).

but the strange thing is, the buffer and recording files play perfectly in GraphStudio when I have it render the file. Opening up lastgraph.grf brings back the same problems. But, both graphs have exactly the same filters!

All I can think of is that the "Video Renderer" in GraphStudio's generated graph is VMR7 perhaps..? PVRX2 is set to VMR9 Custom, but I get the same artifacts in VMR9 FSE and EVR.

I have the latest drivers, have tried older ones, even formatted my system to start fresh... to no avail.

I know sub never put VMR7 into PVRX2, but despite having a very nice rig and hardware, VMR7 might be the only way I can get good video for some reason with this card.

anyone know what might be going on... please?

sorry, forgot to mention that the problem occurs no matter which decoder I use.. have tried ffdshow, cyberlink, mainconcept, built-in microsoft one.. all have the same problems.

What is your deinterlace setting in Catalyst control center? Make sure "Use Application Settings" and "Automatic Deinterlacing" are unchecked and set it to "Vector Adaptive".

those were unchecked, although I had it set to motion adaptive.. setting to vector adaptive and rebooting to see if that does the trick.

vector adaptive made the weird motion "corruption" go away, but some combing artifacts still remain and now tickers aren't quite right.. and static areas of the image often "jump" as if it's resorting to a dumb bob sometimes.

I guess ATI is just bad at deinterlacing? nvidia was silky smooth and perfect.

Are you using CCC 9.6?

yep.. running 9.6 now.. had been using 9.2 before as 9.5 totally hosed deinterlacing for me (really horrible artifacting).. 9.6 does seem better than 9.2 but it really gets to you when you see some lovely static text decide to bounce up and down randomly for a second or two. Smile

I live in the US (60Hz). Drop back to 9.4 or earlier. Here's a quote from renethx over on AVS:

Quote:Avivo video processors (deinterlacing, pulldown detection, sharpening, denoise etc. for both SD and HD) of the card work perfectly with CCC 9.4 or any earlier version, but they do not work with CCC 9.5/9.6. I hope AMD fixes the issue with a future driver release.

UVD (decoding part) works fine.
