I have a Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128Mb video card. I know it is not at hardware encoder, but will I get a better performance for motions with a better video card, and can someone recommend one (it does not have to be good for video games) ?
I have a P4 3.0 GHz and it only uses 5-8 % CPU.

Why do you want a faster video card, if your machine is virtually idle? I have a FX-5200 running in a Sempron 2200 machine and although I sometimes get high CPU usage, it works fine overall.

Remember: Faster video cards usually require active cooling, which greatly increses the noise of your machine.

Thanks for the answer xtophs

I thought it would work better for action movies with a lot of movements. I also got a MVP and that's much better for moving schenes. Is it not possible to get software decoding near as good as hardware decoding. My CPU only uses 5-8 % so I thought the Display card was the bottle neck.

Although I am no expert with regard to these issues, it is difficult to give advice without further knowledge about your setup. It might be helpful if you could explain this in a little bit more detail.

In general I would recommend to play around with the options that GB-PVR offers for playback before going for new hardware. Also, the codecs could be of interest.

Hope that helps a bit.
