mvallevand Wrote:@bavan your logs show a missing heartbeat (8) after returning from TV live and I know the MVP will abort in this condition. You might want to try the mvpmc dongle too see if it fixes this problem.

Martin
I did a bit of testing last night and indeed, the mvpmc dongle does seem to get around this problem. I had a quick peek at mvpmc once before, but had problems getting the aspect ratio right on my TV. But, now that I know how to set this in the config file, I think I am just going to stick with mvpmc. It seems to work better than the original dongle from Hauppauge anyway.

Looking through the forums, it looks like Martin has put a lot of hard work into this in the past, but never really got a lot of support from the GBPVR user community. This is a pitty, as the more I look at this, the more I see that mvpmc is a way better option.

The real power of mvpmc comes in the linux work, i think. Most of us are in windows.. so it does seem a little confusing.

For example, I boot thru to GBPVR via the mvpmc dongle for WAF.
I dont mind backing out to the mvpmc menu to try some cool things, but I dont have a clue how to go about it.
Heres one Martin posted a long time ago;

LIVE365DATA='notme&password=unknown'; export LIVE365DATA;

mvpmc -c 192.168.3.40 --vlc 192.168.3.2 --emulate 192.168.3.2 --startup filesystem:file=/usr/playlist > /dev/null &

So sure.. Id like to play with Live365 stations.. but wha ? I assume he's running some other util to skim Live365 data or something ? Is it being called via .40 (and whats the -c ?), or is VLC hosting it at the .2 ? I assume the --startup filesystem gets some playlist going, but is it on the mvp, or at the server.. and where.. lol

So, using mvpmc on my MVP is mostly just about the 30sec timeout fix, and being able to play flac and oog files (although I dont have many..).

You are looking too deep into mvpmc and not enough at emulation mode. GBPVR autoloads mvpmc into emulation mode with no configuration at all and it is a full replacement for the Hauppauge dongle. For some users, (and I do feel I have good support from the GBPVR community), it simpley makes using the MVP better for video playback because of what I consider better networking (full duplex vs half duplex), better buffering, wide screen support, software and hardware a/v sync etc.

However for me it is the basic stablity I could never get the Hauppauge dongle to go more than a few days without having to reload the dongle. Here is what I see on my one online machine.

Hmm, well, as I said, mvpmc has fixed that particular problem, but there is something in 1.4.7 that doesn't like the MediaMVP. I'm getting all kinds of glitchy, stuttery performance and unexplained black screens that never happened in 1.3.11.

1.4.7 is fine from my PVR PC, but seems quite unstable on the MVP. I think I'll roll back to 1.3.11 so that I can again watch TV in the bedroom. The only problem I had in 1.3.11 was the DVD problems that were fixed in 1.4.7, but I can live with those.

Bill.

There is definitely live tv troubles in 1.4.7 leading to black screens and your problem might not be the same as bavan's, but without logs it is hard to tell Glitchy and stuttery is doesn't sound related to the version,

IMO there isn't too much testing on the MVP anymore so things are bound to just get worse over time.

All I can tell you is that 1.4.7 is far worse for me than 1.3.11 was, with otherwise the exact same setup. Been so busy with work lately, I haven't had a chance to sit down at home and upload my logs. At work now, but must try to get onto this...

I posted a similar issue in the MVPMC sub forum a couple of weeks ago, it had logs attached if they are of any use.
I fixed my issue by buying a PCH....probably not what you wanted to hear!

Hey gang,

I'm behind, just applied the v1.4.7 update. Seems faster on my PVR PC, which is nice.

I have a similar issue with LiveTV on the MVPs, but it occurs when the show being watched ends. The MVP use to keep playing the next show under v1.3.11 with just a little hick-up at the transition of shows (probably the change to the new file), but now it kicks out to the black screen with the same power-cycle-required described above.

I had some really weird comskip playback issues on my NMT (PCH A-110) after the upgrade too, but I believe it was just one file (so far anyway).

I'm also experiencing this with a PCH100 since going to 1.4.7, black screen at the end of a programme. Like you I used to hit the power button on the remote to restart the PCH, but I found that the guide button still works and then you can select 'watch' on the same programme to bring it back to life again.

The weird thing is if you use the guide trick to start watching a programme again, when you eventually hit the stop button the programme starts playing from the point where the screen blacked out.

To explain this using a timeline example:-

I settle down to watch 3 hours of TV,
1. At 58 minutes the screen goes black.
2. At 60 minutes I wake up hit the guide button and 'watch' the same programme, the programme resumes from 60 minutes.
3. At 80 minutes I press the stop button, the PCH then replays the 'missing' segment from 58minutes to 60minutes and then it stops and returns to the guide.

Also since turning on 'Use live-preview mode if possible' in the config on the server makes it less prone to hanging.

It's only a minor issue (it only happen's at the end of the programme, not half way through it)

This is a known problem on the MVP (any dongle) and the NMT , several people are anxiously awaiting 1.5
