Ok, there's something I'd like to capture from my VCR using GBPVR and I'm not quite sure if I've configured my PVR-250 right. If someone could walk me through it or tell me exactly how to do it, I'd really appreciate it.

So right now, I've set up two capture sources.

The first one, which I assume will capture from the composite in:

Capture Card Type: Hauppauge PVR-250
Country: Canada
Board Number: Capture Device #1
Source: Composite, External Tuner
EPG Source: Zap2It

The second one, which is my standard Cable TV:

Capture Card Type: Hauppauge PVR-250
Country: Canada
Board Number: Capture Device #1
Source: Internal Tuner
EPG Source: Zap2It

Is this configured correctly? How do I access the VCR? Do I have to assign it a channel number? How do I do that? And do I have to run the EPG update for both?

Thanks

Yes, you could do it that way, but it'll be a little awkward. You'd need use the 'Add Channel' button to in the capture source to add a channel called something like 'VCR'. It'll obviously show up empty in the TV guide, but you'd be able to recording.

To be honest though, if you want to transfer something off tape, you're probably better off using a tool like WinTV2000 which was designed for this sort of task.

Well, I tried it this way and it does seem to work. I was just wondering if there was a better way to do this (was also going to help you out in your "two capture source, one card, GB-PVR allowing to scheduled recordings" thread, but I needed to configure my set up first). I assigned the VCR to be channel 99 and I can access it using CH +/- and directly from inputting 99.

The weird thing is that if I don't Update EPG for the first source (the Composite in), no program information appears in the TV Guide and if I don't Update EPG for the last Capture source I add (in this case, the Cable Tuner), no program data appears in the mini-guide while channel surfing.

I also found that if I didn't disable all of the other channels in the first source (except for the VCR channel), if I tried to scroll past the VCR channel (using the CH -/+ keys), the channel in GBPVR would change but the actual channel would be stuck on the VCR. I also found that I also lose the program data in the mini-browser if I did this too (despite disabling all the extraneous channels in the first source).

I guess I sort of understand why some of this happens. If I don't disable the duplicate channels in the first source, then GBPVR is probably trying to change to the relevant channels from the composite in, which is why it appears stuck on the channel that the VCR comes into.

Kind of confused about why the program data in the Mini-Browser gets lost, though, when trying it both ways (duplicate channels enabled and disabled). I've updated the EPG data for both sources, so one would think they'd be displayed in the mini-browser.

Anyways, is there a better way to do this? For curiosity's sake, now, more than anything. I'd love to use GBPVR to do what I want, but I always could go back to good ol' WinTV.
