This is a continuation of the problems reported at the end of my DVD playback problem thread but I've started a new one as it has nothing to do with DVD... I cant play back any H264 1080i .ts recordings or live TV since upgrading to 1.5.21. In 1.5.19 live TV worked but .ts playback did not, now nothing does. Some further digging around I've managed to prove that it thinks it's an mpeg2 stream not H264 and is attempting to build a graph with the chosen mpeg2 decoder instead of the H264 one. I've tried changing the mpeg2 decoder to various ones that dont have H264 capability (e.g. the ATI decoder) and sure enough for live TV it attempts to build a graph the mpeg2 decoder and not whatever I have selected for H264 playback - sure enough it doesn't work.

I've tried in Graphedit to build a graph with NPVR ts reader -> mpeg2 demux and sure enough from what I can tell the output video pin claims to be mpeg2 so will only let me connect it to an mpeg2 decoder not an H264 one. It then obviously fails to play...

Can anyone (preferably watching UK HD 1080i content) confirm that they can or cannot play BBC HD either live or recorded .ts in 1.5.21? Also if someone wouldn't mind trying to play this in 1.5.21 and let me know what happens and what graph it builds (in the npvr logs, or connect graphedit to the remote graph as it plays and post a screen shot), I'd be most grateful. I dont see how this could be anything I've done, but you never know!

If you do a scan, does the channel show as H.264 in the scan results?

They scan as H264 HD - oddly when deleting the old scan info (which came from a scan in 1.5.19) and rescanning, the channels now play in live TV. So have deleted the lot and am doing a rescan. TS files recorded in GBPVR of these HD channels still wont play though.

Just a quickie - I can watch and record/play BBC HD in 1.5.21
Downloading your file now (my ISP is throttling tonight).
It will be a npvr log rather than a graphedit thingie unless there are quick and easy idiots guides ? I have it but only ever used it to view and old gbpvr graphedit leftover.

logs of watching live tv with BBC HD

Logs should do fine - thanks loads for this. CoreAVC is interesting. Do you have any problems with it and the change recently BBCHD made from constant bit rate to variable? I have a copy of CoreAVC2 so should give it a go - but then again I have ATI graphics so no hardware accel. What graphics card do you have?

I had to play it using 'video' in npvr and it played fine - but did notice it was the narrative/descriptive audio that played.
I've been using coreavc for some time and not had many problems with it - the main being that it sometimes becomes unregistered, I even have a desktop icon to re-register it. I hadn't noticed any changes with BBC HD changes of bitrates. I must admit though, most viewing is SD source material here.
Video card is nvidia geforce 8500gt clone. ISTR getting a couple of them from a pc-world sale and they work fine for me.

Thanks for that. I'll def have a go with CoreAVC to see if it makes any difference. When watching live BBC HD do you get the narrative too? Not that all progs have a distinguishable narrative so it's not always easy to tell... so no worries if you have no idea.

I have only noticed narrative on BBC HD in the early days. Bear in mind though, that I forgot to say earlier, that our main viewing is done via an NMT and it's only when trying things out that I watch on this machine. The graphics card in the old gbpvr server is just short of being able to display HD without the occasional breakup (nvidia 5200).
No sign of narrative from BBC/ITV at present, mediainfo is what I generally use to spot it after the event.
I'll try to pay more attention over the next few days.
