I have GB-PVR running on XP using an Hauppauge PVR-150 capture card, and I am thinking of upgrading to NPVR. What do I need to do for the upgrade to work? Does NPVR run on XP? Are there special steps I need to follow for the upgrade to work?

I'll probably go to the latest version of NPVR - if I can - I'm just hesitant because I don't want to lose the recordings (or the wife will have a lot to say about it!).

Thanks for any help,

Brian

2 quick points:

It runs on XP just fine.
If you just want to try it out it's a separate install, not an upgrade, so as long as you're not trying to use the capture card at the same time you can have GB-PVR and NPVR on the same machine at the same time.

Running both works well. The only thing to watch is if you have NMT/PCH's and you have to only have one recording service running.
But to play safe, I'd backup the gbpvr directory if the wife has big fists.
Import recordings into NPVR works fine so long as the correct directories are setup.
The only problem I had was with migrating existing season recordings.

Thanks. I don't really care about importing season recording schedules, and there are a few shows I would want to keep the recordings of, but other than that it should be pretty smooth. To import recordings - what steps do I need to follow?

Thanks,

Brian

Fairly certain all I did was export recordings from GB-PVR Config and then import recordings in NPVR. (1st set NPVR recordings directory to same directory as GB-PVR, restart NPVR to make sure setting has taken before importing) If using both software and hopping in between the 2 for testing etc make sure in both config.xml's you have AutoRemoveMissingRecordings set to true (I think this is default anyway) so that if you delete a recording within say GB-PVR it will also remove it from NPVR .

As I say 'fairly' certain that was all I did Wink

[Edit]Probably safe to back up the GB-PVR database as a matter of course anyway before playing! And of course if you make a new recording with either GB-PVR or NPVR that won't appear in the recordings list of the other sofware [EndEdit]

I can confirm that.
Either do an export from gbpvr config, or use the daily export created in the gbpvr directory.
ensure gbpvr and npvr point to the same recordings directory and then import the exported file from above into npvr.
This will work straight away - then you can start messing with getting tuners setup.
