I've written a couple of plugins and I've always used the Default skin as the gold standard but I suspect it may not be the most commonly used NPVR skin. Now that Hairy is passing Slate to the community and we can also Wave goodbye I thought I could help the community best by supporting the most commonly used skins

I've used Wave since switching to NPVR, but Slate looks like it is even better

The poll has already started, so I guess it's too late to change it, but I would have suggested making Wave and Slate a single category. Anyone planning to use Slate is most probably using Wave now, and anyone using Wave now will almost certainly be installing Slate. I put my vote on Slate just the same.

I will count Wave as Slate, I just didn't want to confuse things.

yeah, I concluded my comment was picky and superfluous after I posted it... it's not as if getting some votes for Wave and some for Slate will somehow confuse you.

I'd like to see "the community" unite behind just a couple of skins. That will make things easier especially for plugin devs. I don't see the point of variety just for variety's sake, though I have no wish to discount or disparage anyone's hard work either.

The plugin developers generally don't do plugin skins for the other skins that is up to the skin developers to do, the exception to this that I have seen is plugin dev's will sometimes support the skin they personally use as well as the skin sub provided blue for GB-PVR now default, they will still need to make sure their plugin works with default anyway as there is no way sub is going to do default skins for plugins Wink

There are so many different personal tastes out there in the community I am sure there is room for quite a number of different skins.......as a skin developer it would be appreciated if some of the hundreds (thousands for GB-PVR) that download a skin would actually post some feedback (either positive or negative is fine) so the developer know if their work is actually being used by others

Jaggy, I have a feel not many people are using Default, once they understand skins, which is why I posted this. For GBPVR it was different a lot of people used Blue or used it in combination because GBPVR allowed selecting NMT and MVP skins.

As an example if for Universe I'd prefer to design something for a popular skin(s). I know I can't skin like you and Hairy but designing a usable skin for Default 4:3 and 16:9 is only valuable if people are going to use them. I have no issue if Default had a BRVE+ or Slate look & feel.

I suspect more will be using default than we will ever know, just look at this message for an example of lack of response to a question, as of posting this reply it has had 124 views & only 11 of them have actually taken the time to bother to vote, how are we ever meant to know what the majority of user actually use or want to use?? But I do agree with your comment "once they understand skins" which I am sure a large number don't.

I sincerely hope allowing different skins for the MVP & NMT is going to make a return at some stage in the future & I even more so hope that this time we will be able to select a different skin for different units.

I guess in the end it is up to the individual plugin developer how they do their skin but for the majority of skins the skin developer will do a plugin skin to match their skin but no one will do a default look & feel skin if the plugin developer doesn't do one.

As a developer, you have to do a Default skin implementation because that's the only skin you can guarantee that everyone has, and it's only a couple of lines of code to fall back on that skin's files if the skin the user is actually using doesn't support your plugin.

I also find it hard enough writing a Default skin (you can add me to the collection of coders with zero artistic talent), so I'm completely behind any of the skin authors who want to support my plugins in their skins, and I'm more than happy to do what I can to make things easier for them, even if I never intend to use that particular skin myself.

I use the default skin and will probably do so until npvr comes out of beta. I also don't use many (if any) plugins
Reason being that if reporting problems, a clean base helps the developer.
I've tried them of course and they are nice and spinkly and I will be using alternate skins in due course.
