Update 2011-01-14 HE-AAC Support

I decided to challenge myself and see about building a HE-AAC remuxer inside mvpmcx2 to allow native playback from NPVR. I have a limited number of short captured samples from around the world and so far I have been succesfully able to play captures from NZ, BBC, Denmark, Norway, Sweden (AAC LC) and Brazil, (AAC SBR what a bit of work that was!).

The remuxer does have to convert each audio bit so there is a good opportunity for error, after all that will be a minimum 24000 conversions a second, so I can't really say how will this will work, and I'm sure it will fail on some files, but do it will improve over time as I understand the process. Even at this point the files play better on my PCH the on my PC.

Please let us now how this works for you. If your country is not on the list (or there are differences in your broadcasters) provide me with an update.

If a file doesn't work, I would certainly like to get a sample, so a 50 MB chunk on megaupload or mediafire would be very helpful. I have found that I have had to tweak something for each country.

Based on the success so far this is now the production version of mvpmcx2 and is available through the normal sources (NMTInstall 1&2, CSI, and online, currently mvpmcx2o.7z) the benefits outway any problems that may occur.

Interesting post. I'm going to try it now...does it work for Live TV as well (since I don't actually have any dvb-t recording anymore - I've gone mostly satellite based because of the PCH).

I added the following to me startmeup script
/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2-new20100114 -m 720 --frequency 50 &
with this being the new program -it was set up for a version from 20090604

With that in place I tested it with a short recording of HE-AAC-LC with no sound (I can provide this as a sample if you want 37MB)
But also tested an MPEG2 DVB-S file and one of our HD TV3 recordings (that will contain AC3 and HE-AAC-LC and these usually work) - none of the recording played any sound.

That works for me in 720p 50hz. Could you try the attached, maybe I uploaded the wrong version.

Maybe it was just a typo when you posted it here, or you were consistent when you renamed the file & accessed it in your script, but the current year is 2011.

This is the missing piece in the puzzle.

I downloaded and updated my mvpc share, restarted the NMT and there were sound from the Danish channels with HE-AAC sound. I got about 10 minutes of uptime at the moment but it really looks good. I have only tried this on GBPVR, will try my NPVR server as soon as I get the time.

Yes, great job Martin. HE-AAC is something I thought I'd never see on my A100. It works pretty well here.
