I run NPVR 2.6 with an Hauppauge HDPVR and an Aureon 5.1 sound card, wich is connected to my sound system via tosslink. I recently noticed that my recordings had no sound if listened in my headphones, played from whitin NPVR or with windows media player. I don't have this problem if I play recordings made with any other device... or if I play my NPVR files on another computer...

what do you have your Audio Renderer set to in Settings->Decoders?

Hello Chapon, most likely your channels aren't set up correctly. Got to Settings->Devices and make sure the correct audio input is selected (RCA, SPDIF, etc). Then very important: Select the channels in the list below using mouse, right-click and select "update to current settings." It's also possible that you don't have to right type of audio decoder selected under Settings->Decoders. If audio input is SPDIF or HDMI then you need an AC3 decoder. For analog audio via RCA, I believe the HDPVR encodes as AAC. LAV audio decoder supports both formats.

[Edit] Sorry, if you get audio when you play the files on another PC then your channels must be set up. Most likely your AC3 decoder needs to be configured to output the audio "as is."

He was asking for the renderer, not the decoder.

If it doesn't work with it set to default, then it has something to do with the settings in your audio decoder or in your windows audio control panel. NPVR has no further control over it.

@Chapon: If you go to Sound via Control Panel (or you might be able to right-click on taskbar icon and select Playback Devices), what is the name of the default playback device with the green mark beside it?

I haven't used the ffdshow decoder but it definitely requires configuration. On NextPVR's Settings->Decoders window, just to the right of each dropdown list there is a button [...] to access decoder properties.
Would I be correct in guessing that the STB is connected to the HDPVR via SPDIF (or Toslink, which I gather is virtually the same thing)? Then you're getting AC3 audio.

Thank you. The fact that the same file plays ok in VLC and not with MPC or Windows media player...?

FFdshow has a setting to only allow listed players to use the filter. If that is enabled, you need to add NextPVR to the list of allowed players. Been a long time since I used ffdshow so I don't remember where the setting is located.
