I have a fine picture, but cannot get sound.
I am an utter newbie – despite being an “older” gentleman.
Can someone help? I tried searching in the forums – could not come up with an answer. Thanks!

• Tuner – Avermedia / AverTV Hybrid TV Volar Max. I bought this a long time ago, and have been using it with MediaCenter with no problems. So I assume I have all the drivers / etc. on this machine. I want to move to Windows 8, and thought NextPVR looked like a better bet than MediaCenter.
• PC – Windows 7.
• TV Signal – over the air digital.
• Next DVR – latest version: 3.2.9.

Problem. I get a fine picture – after finally figuring out to set the Video Decoder to AVerMedia!
But I cannot get sound, no matter what option I choose. It also records fine, but no sound on live TV.
And I really do not understand the sound options on over the air digital. What am I doing wrong? And a pointer to a tutorial on all of this would be nice too.

Many thanks. Appreciate all you do here.

Your going to need to install an AC3 audio decoder for OTA. LAV (my choice) and AC3 Filter are good choices.

Yep, what he said - you need an AC3 decoder.

Sounds easy enough. Unfortunately, I did a search and found this world of codecs thing - which apparently has just installed a world of ads pile of schmuck. Now to get rid of that. Thanks! A nice tutorial on all of this video stuff would be nice.

Just install the LAV decoders from https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases (the xxxxxx-installer.exe option is the most straight forward)

I got it - and it works. Thanks. Folks are very gracious here to us novices.
I have ONE more question - but I think it deserves it's own thread.
I keep thinking other folks must go down this road first.
I'll go search on it first. Just wonder if I need to have the machine up and running for a recording to work. I can experiment a bit, but I'm sure there's some documentation on that somewhere!

Thanks again.

NextPVR will ask Windows to be awake at the times it has any recording due, so Windows will typically wake the machine from standby/hibernate to do recordings.

Got it. I did find that in the forums. Windows MediaCenter would work even if I logged off.
I take it NextPVR will not as it will not let me log off without shutting down the service.
That's fine. Sleep is perfect.

Many thanks for this product. Works slick.

Sure, you don't need to be logged in, or have the NextPVR.exe front end running. The recording service runs as a service in the background.

Aha. The best of all worlds.
Sorry about this - you really need a "newbie" how to. I read all the stickies and manual - still left me questions.
I worked in IT for 30 years, have messed around with MediaCenter a bit - but it was still a little bit of a problem getting this together.
Not terrible - just not something a real "end user" would attempt.
Maybe I'll take a shot at that.
I found some good help here: http://blog.mattwoodward.com/2013/02/ins...vr-as.html

Many thanks again - you do good work.
