Running NPVR 3.2.9 with no issues. While trying out all the buttons on a new MCE remote I have managed to make the sound disappear during playback. No sound for recordings playback, or for downloaded AVI files playing back through NPVR. If I play media files with VLC player I get sound ok through the TV, it's only with NPVR that it's not working.

Using onboard sound and video from Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4+.

Attached are logs and screenshot of my decoder settings. Also is a screenshot of the PC volume mixer that shows NPVR and a green bar for sound, though none is coming through the TV.

All volume settings on the PC are at 100% and the TV volume is up enough.

The remote button pressing might be a red herring, but I think the button pressed when the issue started happening was the ENTER button, in the bottom right of the attached picture of the remote.

I have experimented with all the different Audio renderers to no avail, the main other one being Panasonic TV AMD High Definition.

Any help appreciated.

Have you looked at the AC3Filter settings? I seem to remember that there is a tickbox for using SPDIF that you might want to check.

Do you get sound when you play stuff using Windows Media Player? WMP uses more or less the same decoder mechanism as NextPVR. VLC uses its own internal mechanism.

If WMP has a problem, it probably means that the cause is outside of NextPVR.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I checked the "Use SDPIF" box in AC3Filter settings but it didn't make any difference. I have attached a screenshot of the SPDIF settings.

WMP plays video files with audio working ok. Same avi file played through NPVR has no sound. I have attached a GSpot view of that avi file showing that audio codecs are installed.

Is your tv connected via HDMI or is the audio and video connected via separate cabel?

Connected via HDMI cable only.

NextPVR asks WMP to play .avi files (and any files that are not .ts) and WMP decides the decoders that it will use for files that are not .ts. I would expect you to get the same result with NextPVR as with WMP on Windows 7. The MS decoders on Windows 8 are shackled and NextPVR and WMP can give different results on Win 8.

So ... I have no clue what is happening with you. My stock advice for all decoder issues is to send a forum private message to Hoborg and get the unlcoked version of SAF ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post414049

Have you checked in windows control panel what is the default output speakers? In your case it should be HDMI output.

Default device is AMD High Definition Audio Device, which is the HDMI output. Sound is playing fine through this device (the TV) for WMP.

It seems that for some reason only NPVR will not play through the default device. I have tried reinstalling NPVR 3.2.9 but this didn't help. My next step will be to completely uninstall NPVR and then reinstall.

Very strange. In npvr's decoder settinge->Audio render, do you have the AMD HD Audio as an option?
