Now that I'm moving my production system to v5, I'm missing having the Windows Desktop Gadget running on my laptop to showing me the current recordings and free disk space "at a glance".

cncb: Do you still have the source code for the gadget? Have you looked into updating it to use the v5 API instead of NEWA?

The gadget contains all the "source code".  If you leave it as a .zip file and extract all the files, you will see the .js files which will have to be modified for the new API.  Sorry, I am not looking into it because I stopped using gadgets when they unfortunately removed them from Windows.

I had a look at it earlier and it could be implemented with a rewrite. Sub (unfortunately for me in knewc too) didn't add and API to get details for a specific event_oid but I think it is all in the recording list now anyway. Another challenge is sub's web server doesn't support .gadget files via web.config so installation would be manual.

What does the call need to do? I'm sure it'll be easy enough to add.

There is a call to get the show details giving an event id:

http://localhost:8866/services/service?m...id=1096305

Ok great I should be able to work something out.  Does it return the recording oid like newa or do I need to get the recording list too.

Do you support new extensions via web.config?

yes, it does include the recording status.

What does the web.config need?

It's not a big deal but . gadget files aren't supported and I tried adding a .gadget mimemap to application/octet and still get 404.

I really don't know anything about these gadget files. I've done a quick google, but can only find really old information, and haven't found a clear description of what is needed to host this type of file.

Are they still supported on current versions of Windows?

No but there is something called the 8gadget pack that I was going to try. The server doesn't have to do anything but if you wanted to host it like UJB did for cncb then we need the ability to download .gadget extensions. Like I said not a big deal.
