I have another post where I stated I have a problem with recording television in that I get diagonal tearing and someone suggested that I use a different codec, my question is which codec to use and where do I get it?

Thanks for all the help

Somewhere on here this link was give.

Hope it helps. As for what one to use, I guess it is kind of machine driven as to what one is the best. I'm still playing myself.

I use the Dscaler mpeg for recording and viewing. It is free just visit http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/deint...e?download and you need a program (can't remember the name) to tell it to use the filter.

I use DScaler as well - it does a FANTASTIC job of deinterlacing, especially with film sources. I can always tell when a decoder uses a blend deinterlacer because film sources always look like crap during slow motion. I get none of that with DScaler.

Also, you shouldn't need anything else to specify that you want DScaler to be used as the default MPEG2 filter. At least on my machine, I don't - if you have a TON of codecs installed, the merits may be conflicting with one another. This is probably the utility your'e talking about though.

Also, when you say you use DScaler for recording, what do you mean? It's a decoder filter only is it not??

Anybody know where I can download the "Mainconcept MPEG2 decoder" without installing a whole codec pack? I'd like to give it a shot if it's free, but I can't find it outside of a big bundle.
