But according to Windows firewall there is nothing open on 8866.

Have you tried a test with the firewall turned off to be sure that this is the problem?

My firewal shows ...
Thanks, that is extremenly helpful.

I have not tried with the firewall off, and am loathe to do so as i have a lot going on and and rather sensitive things exposed inside my little network, but that is precisely what I do not see in my firewall.

What is the best way to fix this?  Uninstall and then try a reinstall or manually try to replicate this?

The quickest and easiest is probably uninstall and reinstall.

Except it has failed once Big Grin

Any chance I can talk you into getting me some directory locations and permissions detail on the 3 NPVR program instances you have allowed through  your firewall?

Thank you!

Just to add a little commentary while I set this up, #2 on your list has installed iteself on my machine as 'DeviceHostWindows' instead of 'NPVRDeviceHostWindows'.

Could that be an issue causing my installation routine to have failed?

And am gonna try without allowing the client -- don't see any good reason why that should need firewall permissions.

Will report back later, but again thanks for all your help!

Yup, that's a worker (w/o the client permission)!

Thanks very much, guys.  I was on the cusp of spending a good chunk of the weekend opening up some boxes and getting dusty, moving cards around and installing mythtv and linux on an old HTPC build I have doing very little.  Much appreciated!

I'd imagine there is some sort of issue with the installer, however, and if I can supply any logs, etc, please let me know.

The installer runs a program called installservice.bat which I was going to suggest your rerun if all else failed. DeviceHostWindows is part of it but it wouldn't have been the issue since you said that things where working on the server box. The remote issue would only have been with the two ports I explained earlier.

Commonly we see problems when users run something other then the Windows firewall or have a firewall like function in their a/v Internet Suite.

Thanks again, Martin.

FYI I don't run any antivirus apart from standard Windows Defender setup. I do run some IPTables scripts on my router, but that is all facing the WAN and I don't see any way that could possibly affect anything.

The only thing that comes to mind is I may have installed version 5 on top of version 4.  I probably then used Revo to remove V 4 afterwards, and I suppose that may have mucked things up, although I imagine different app names and port numbers are involved.  If that sounds plausible perhaps an update to the installation notes to guide the upgrade process would be helpful.

Many thanks!

Perhaps a "smart" uninstaller would have seen the word "NextPVR" and removed the service. Glad you got it sorted out.
