Hi All,

I'm pretty sure I posted about something similar a while ago but I can't find it - apologies!

Back then the issue was that the transcoder seemed to get disconnected from the player but continued running in the background and after a while you could have multiple transcoders running and run out of CPU cycles. This is not happening now.

Now, if I watch a programme which has either already started, or has finished recording and skip forward a few times to avoid commercials etc, at some point the stream will stop and not restart. I need to close it, go back in and play again.

The same thing can happen when watching live tv - it seems to me (but I may be wrong) that once it starts to happen, the frequency increases.

I had some idea that the web player was an open source project of its own which NPVR utilised, in which case nothing can be done here. I also don't use the web player too much so it's not a huge issue for me, just wanted to offer the feedback in case it helps. (It's been a month since I last used it for an extended period, so I doubt logs will still be there, but happy to provide if useful.

Cheers!

If your're a regular user of the web app for watching recordings, it's best to turn on the Recording Auto Transcode, which means you end up th a recording that is the native format to be played in a web browser, and it's much better for skipping around etc. (and doesn't need to restart a transcoder each time you do it)

Sorry - I didn't see that you replied!

Appreciate the response but approx 50% of my recordings are HD, with the rest being SD.

I would presumably lose a significant amount of space if I upscaled all of my SD recordings to HD with no quality improvement (UK Freeview SD is extrordinarily low quality)

Yeah maybe. If you're like most people these days, you've probably got shitloads of disk space, so what does it matter unless you're running out?

Ultimately though, that is your best option if you're intending to view in the web app. Otherwise just stick to players (like nextpvr.exe, kodi etc) that can play your native broadcasts.

My Mums Slingbox and Slingcatcher broke within a few days of each other - I am therefore hosting her recording as well - I had no idea how many NCIS series existed! I thought I had lost of disk space until then Smile

I've gone back to Plex to access recordings when abroad - it was a bad PVR, but it's fairly capable at transcoding / streaming TV which has been recorded by NPVR. She also can't delete my scheduled recordings which is good.

(Change that to downloading for offline use and Plex has a habit of jamming up while transcoding - same episode which it could stream with no issues!)
