This morning I updated the HTPC to Windows 24H2 from the latest ISO (in-place install)
All appeared OK until I tried to watch TV - both the Hauppage QuadHD PCIE card and the PCTV USB dongle were not recognized.
First I tried reinstalling the drivers using the WinTV v10 installer which complained that  C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers/BdaSup.sys is corrupted - and on continuing, couldn't find the tv card.
Next I tried copying the said file from the Windows OLD folder - but it gets overwritten each reboot.
Tried System file checker which couldn't repair all the corrupt files - then Repaired using DSIM, but still no luck.

Finally, I rolled back to 23H2 just before the wife came down wanting to watch TV. Thankfully all went back to normal.

Is there anything I have forgotten to do - it's a long time since the last full upgrade on the HTPC?
Or is this a known problem with a workaround?
Or no workaround - which will mean staying on 23H2?

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received.

I don't think logs would have been any use.

You're probably best to try asking Hauppauge about that. I'm sure they'll have a fix.

Thanks Sub

Hauppauge were lower down on my "Who you gona call list"  Big Grin

Sent them an e-mail just after 5pm on Friday -17 mins later had a reply.  Cool

And for anyone having the same problem:
The answer is - Remove the Hauppauge Win Quad HD PCIE card (what a pain) and PCTC stick - I also disabled the NPVR service, just in case.
Then do the in-place install from Windows 1124H2 ISO, shutdown and replace the Tuners, which were recognised on boot.

For some reason the BDA drivers were being corrupted with the Tuners installed.

I think the last time I had to do similar, was upgrading from XP to Vista in GBPVR days long ago.

Because of this thread with a new version of NextPVR coming about shortly, I decided to force the 24H2 update with Window 11 Assistant and my WinTV USB and Silicondust tuners are working fine with BDA

Hopefully the issue here is isolated but at least it is good to know there is a workaround albeit not ideal.

I heard from Hauppauge that it is happening in some cases, but not all the time. I believe they have informed MS.

I'm commenting on an old thread, but in case anyone else gets here after searching for 24h2 & NextPVR...

I have the same Quad HD Hauppauge card (probably, as there are two versions), and used the same method to update from 23h2 to 24h2, ie in place using ISO. I did not have an issue with the Hauppauge drivers.

Perhaps MS have fixed the problem, or perhaps it's because of the version of drivers that I'm using. I have drivers 40271, 41362, and 42173, and after a lot of earlier trial and error due to BSODs it's those latest ones that I settled on - 5.2024.621.42173.

If you cannot find that version of the drivers for download then you might have to get the full WinTV bundle - while you're installing it keep an eye on the %temp% directory and you should see the drivers appear there - copy them somewhere safe and either abandon the install or continue and then uninstall. Now you can install just the drivers.

Incidentally, I've had to back out of 24h2 and go back to 23h2, but that's due to my machine refusing to wake from sleep for a recording, not because of a Hauppauge driver issue.

I noticed this on the Hauppauge support forum. Not a problem I'm currently having but I see that others do from time-to-time.
"If recordings aren't happening at all, you need to make sure Wake Timers are enabled (see screenshot). You can find this setting in Power and sleep settings:
Power Options -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Sleep -> Allow wake timers:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings
On my PC it was set to "Important Wake Timers only" and the PC wouldn't wake up for recordings."
