I am putting a GB-PVR system together for myself,and am trying to put the best components in the system to minimize video degradation - at a reasonably fair cost. Ideally, I would like to go from my SAT Source (s-video) to my TV Destination (Composite).

Can any of the gb-pvr supported devices do this?

if not what is my next best alternative?

And does anyone have a PVR device I can buy off them, (through PayPal etc)

What exactly do you mean? Your wording makes me think you're looking for something special.

A fairly standard approach is to connect your SAT source via s-video to your PC via a capture device (e.g. Hauppauge PVR150), then connect your video card's TV-out to the TV. Does this meet your needs?

This is all new to me....but I know I will get the best video quality if I use the COMPOSITE input going to my TV (using the TV out of the PVR/Video card) - but I am not sure which supported cards have those connectors
(instead of the yellow RCA jacks)

A Hauppauge PVR150 would probably a good choice. You can connect this via svideo to your SAT box.

The PVR cards are only input. They dont connect to your TV.

To connect to your TV, you need a regular video card with TV out. There is hundreds of different models of video card out there to choose from. I currently connect to a Plasma TV via DVI on my Radeon 9200.

Other users may be able to give recommendations for of cards that work well via composite.

Are you talking about capturing broadcasts or connecting to the TV?

If you're talking about capturing broardcasts, GB-PVR does support the digital standards used in UK/Europe/Australia, via DVB-T and DVB-S. I dont know where you are.

If you're talking about connecting to the TV, then sure you can use VGA or DVI or whatever your video card and TV can agree on.

COAX (though I doubt a video card exists which will output to COAX)

2 cards - one for in then one for out....(i thought I was to use 1)

No, its just a regular video card like what your monitor is plugged into.

Trying to capture sat broadcast....pump it through the PVR card (device) then using the GB-PVR software send the signal out my video card to my TV (using the rca/composite....) does that sound right...?
does the computer need to be networked? (not a problem)
I am using STAR CHOICE - does the GB-PVR software get the guide online? and the remote for the PVR device control the onscreen selections?
