Hello

Just bought a NOVA-t card from Hauppauge. I hated the included software (didn't work at all to start with) so I decided to install GBPVR. That was this morning. I've now got it working and it's brilliant. I thought I would share how this was done -

Most of this information has been taken off of other posts here but I thought it would be a good idea to have it all in one place.

Follow install instructions located at http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=4344

The CD that was shipped with my Nova card is marked as version 1.3. I believe this software is out of date. Just follow the install instructions on the above URL. If you have installed the software from the included CD remember to uninstall using the HWClear.exe file found on it.

Reboot computer.

Download the mpgmux.ax file. This can be found on Google, I am not sure of the licencing restrictions on this so I do not wish to provide a direct link. Drop this into c:\windows\system32\ folder

From the Start button, select run and type the following

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpgmux.ax

Install GBPVR.

Open the file c:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\config.xml in notepad. Change the text that reads
<BDAScanType>1</BDAScanType> to
<BDAScanType>2</BDAScanType>

Launch the config program for GBPVR. Select the Capture Sources Tab.
Click the Add button
Select the recording source as BDA recording plugin.
I use the Bleb source for TV channel listings. Download the Bleb listings
Click on Map digital channels to EPG channels button.
Make sure that channel changer is set to No channel changer required.
After channels are maped click the OK button.
The only issue I had was that I cannot get Channel 5, but I can receive this under WinTV and my set top plugged into the same aerial. But it is channel 5 so this is probably a good thing. Smile

After this GBPVR should work.

Caveat - I have to admit I don't really know what I'm talking about, this is just what worked for me.

And there is the rub. This file is hard to find and the different versions cuase all sorts of problems and lot of support for poor old Sub. GB-PVR supports dvr-ms now (which is native) and should work well.

TIA

It's not that hard to locate. A quick hit of the search button turns up heaps of download locations. Here's a fairly new version of it http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...stcount=41

Hey, this isnt a commercial project, so I'm not in a position to license one and include it in the release.

gED,

I gave up trying to get my Hauppauge Nova-T USB2 to work with my Hauppauge PVR150 card installed in my PC. The only way I could get the Nova-T to install properly was with the PVR150 removed from the motherboard. (The Nova-T's WinTV2000 is different to the PVR150's and I couldn't get it installed with the PVR150 still in the system.)

TBH not overly impressed with the PVR150 (I had a Leadtek Winfast PVR2000 before which, IMHO, was far better!) not sure if I'm going to bother putting the PVR150 back in as I have a Liteon 5006b DVD recorder which I can use for video transfer.

Good luck with your combination and post here if you get them both working happily together. I'll do likewise.

Cheers

I now have got the nova-t usb2 working with my pvr-350 but I am still having a few little problems, none of which are related to gb-pvr.

TimA-C: Why bother installing the winTV200 application, you don;t need it do you. Maybe this is part of the problem as it is true that the applications supplied with both cards do not appear to work with one another. Specifically (in my case), only the IR software supplied with the nova would work with the new remote.

There are many people using the pvr-150 without problems with gb-pvr. get them both working and u can record 2 programs at the same time.Although with what is on tv most of the time, this is not something i need to do very often....

To get the nova and 350 working together, I had to uninstall the drivers for both devices, install drivers only for the 350, then drivers only plus ir-remote for the nova.

gb-pvr has detected nova perfectly and tuned in without any problems. I use the new dvb epg update feature which is very good, although it takes ages to complete. I have spent ages messing about with the channel selections for both cards. This part has been a bit the biggest headache gb-pvr wise. All the dvb channels also appear in the pvr-350 settings and I had to go through and manually disable them. Also, I had lots of channel duplcates in the channels tab that I had to clear up. All appears ok now tho.

What was more of a pain is that BBC1 would appear as BBC1 via the bleeb epg but as BBC ONE on the dbd epg. ITV was "ITV1" and "ITV [space]1", so I have had to mess about renaming the channels so that they are the same. (If you don;t do this, gb-pvr will not know that they are the same channel and it stops it from being able to record from both cards at the same time)

[edit] Actually I still haven;t got this right. I just tried to watch BBC 1, whilst recording BBC2 and it said that there were no devices available. More work required here then.. :-(

The Nova requires 400ma of power, close to the 500ma limit for a usb port. Alongside my usb wifi adaptor and mouse, this was (i believe) causing a lot of crashes. I bought a baby powered usb hub (for less than £10) off fleebay and this appears to have fixed the crashes.

My problem now is that the usb device (and therefore ir remote) do not wake up correctly from standy (S3). If I unplug and reconnect the device, it works ok. There is a little jumper on the mobo that is something to do with USB wakeup, so I need to try moving this to see if that helps.

That may have to wait until tomorrow as I am about to record the Arena program about the lost Bob Dylan archives. If I mess this recording up, I am dead... (using VHS as well, just to make sure!)

Sorry but I have just realised that this is a "documentation" thread that appears (my fault) to have morphed into a support thread.

Sub: should it be moved perhaps. it would be good to keep documentation clean but maybe that is what the wiki is for nowerdays?
