windows xp on my gbpvr box
Posted by: jam_zhou - 2014-02-14, 06:44 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi All,

I'm still on gbpvr and win XP and was wondering if my htpc will be safe. It's a dedicated box that will only fetch tvguide data, some youtube and maybe netflix. Will my old XP box be safe or should I get my act together and get nextpvr together?

How do I clear all settings and start over
Posted by: dinki - 2014-02-14, 03:01 PM - Forum: NextPVR Web Console - Replies (1)

I previously had Next PVR Web Console installed while tinkering with NPVR. At the time I had cable and was using schedules direct. I've now moved to using NPVR full time and am now only using over-the-air antenna and XMLTV as EPG source.

I've tried deleting all my channels and EPG source, importing channels for NPVR and setting my EPG configuration to my .xml file. I've attempted scanning the xml file, emptying the EPG and filling it, but I never can populate the EPG. I've attempted removing NPVRWC and reinstalling only to have my old channel settings and Schedules Direct configuration showing back up.

How can I clear all information from NPVRWC and start over with a clean slate? The channels and EPG information it is finding are not the ones that NPVR is using now.

Can't start service NPVR Recording - Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit
Posted by: locanda - 2014-02-14, 02:17 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit, SiliconDust HDHomeRun Dual-3 (clearQAM on Time Warner Digital Cable (basic channels), latest version of NPVR with patches applied. Firewall allowing NDigitalHost, NextPVR, NRecord.exe, private & public.

Actually, I can now get everything else to work, as long as I use Administrator Command Prompt to run "NRecord.exe RUN" before starting NVPR. Device is configured, Channels scanned. I can view LiveTV, and did a test record of 2 Manual Recordings at the same time (thru the dual tuners). All functions seem to be working. I still need to work on the EPG, maybe remap channels to #s I'm used to, and play around with closed captioning to check that.

However, unless I use the Command Prompt, I cannot start the NPVR service from the start menu. Instead, I will receive the error message:

"Unable to start service: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service
NPVR Recording Service on computer ".".--->
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file

  Strange Playback issues
Posted by: SteveTyrakowski - 2014-02-13, 10:45 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

Hi,

In the last month or so, I have been having consistent problems with recordings from the ABC station in Chicago with ATSC which are stored as .TS files.. I have not made changes to the system that has been working well for years.

I first noticed a problem with the 10pm news broadcasts. When I try to use the skip forward/back buttons on the remote, the video playback freezes. I can press the back button and return to the NextPvr menu so it is not a catastrophic freeze.

I am playing back on a Windows 7 client computer with the recordings on another Windows 7 computer acting as the server. If I use xbmc on the same Windows 7 client, I can play the same file and successfully skip thru it. Also, I have an automated process that transcodes the recordings using Handbrake after they are over a day old into mp4 format at usually less than 10% of the original size. Once it has been converted to .mp4 NextPvr will happily skip thru the files. This problem seemed to affect all files recorded on this channel, but other channels did not have the problem.

That was a minor problem that I was able to deal with, but starting last week, I started having a problem with the daily recordings of General Hospital for my wife. While they had the same skipping problem, they suddenly starting having a problem converting in Handbrake which disrupts my automated process that does the conversions. These General Hospital recordings have been successfully converting five days a week for over a year before this started.

My transcodes are done on an Ubuntu computer using as script and HandbrakeCLI. I tried to process one of the problems files on a Windows box with Handbrake GUI version but it did not give a good error message. It just failed to load the video.

Using VLC I can jump around on the timeline with the mouse OK.

It seems that it is some kind of problem with the timing info that is getting stored. I don't know where I should start trying to diagnose this. I will try to check if multiple tuners are involved. I have 3 internal ATSC tuners as well as an HDHomerun with 2 more tuners.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Hi.
Is it possible to somehow map EPG directly to the "http://.../xmltv.xml" file?

This will be nice.

Playback of BBC HD Freesat recordings
Posted by: Bobins - 2014-02-13, 01:25 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (35)

Ok, on my journey to build a new NPVR box to replace my aging (and reliable GBPVR system) I've got a few challenges.

My GBPVR box has dual DVB-S and DVB-T tuners however I lost BBC HD when it went to DVB-S2 format.
I therefore bought a new BlackGold Dual DVB-S/S2 DVB-T tuner for my new NPVR rig.

Having sused out how to scan and select which channels I want, I then sorted getting EPG OTA from the satellite. I checked I could get Live TV from each tuner by enabling one at a time then enabled all the tuners. Great so far.

Setup a few recordings and tested playback fully expecting a few challenges based on original GBPVR experience :-). I was not dissapointed. SD Recordings played back with no problem with the default Microsoft codecs. HD recordings....no joy.

Installed my trusty Cyberlink H264 codec for HD and tried again. Picture now but no audio. Checked the audio stream in Live TV and needed AC3. Installed AC3 Filter...... playback now has picture & sound. Great thinks I.....I'll put NPVR into service....ooops....mistake :-(

Discovered some BBC HD recordings won't playback in NPVR.... I get black screen with no sound....others are fine. After hours of playing arround (and hair removal) installing FDSHOW, LAV and even SAF, I have identified I think I have some sort of codec issue but I'm struggling to work out where.

Playing arround with enabling/disabling tuners I've discovered the following:-

SD recordings from either Freesat or Freeview (terestial) playback fine (picture & sound)
BBC HD recordings recorded from Freeview playback fine (picture & sound)
BBC HD recordings recorded from Freesat just give a blank screen and no sound with non sensible start/end figures on the timeline.

If I try to playback the Freesat BBC HD file from the Media Player lite included with SAF the file plays fine. If I look at the graph it says FDSHOW for video and LAV for audio. Tried that in the NPVR settings instead of Cyberlink for H264.....no different.

I suspect the problem is that the BBC HD Freesat channels record from DVB-S2 and that may not be getting decoded during playback but I can't see what to do codec wise to fix. The fact the files playback on the same machine using a different player and I can watch Live TV makes me think all the elements are there but just not configured right. The source is the ony difference I can see between the BBC HD from Freesat & Freeview.

Any suggestions anyone...... anyone else in the UK able to playback BBC HD Freesat files?
