Live TV streaming and transcoding in any shape, form, or fashion...
Posted by: t^2 - 2013-12-26, 07:01 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Is it possible...? Tried nDroid. Nope. Tried NEWA. Nope. Essentially can't stream live TV to any device other than another desktop (running NPVR as a client) on my local LAN. The only way I've been able to get live TV streamed/transcoded to another device (Android Galaxy SIII or IPAD) is by using VLC to stream it (input source for VLC http://localhost:8866/live?channel=88). VLC transcodes it fine but of course doesn't serve as a useful front end from the client side.

So... I've spent a lot of time trying to get this to work. Am I wasting my time? Wonder if I'm going to have to check out Mediaportal. I hope not. Hate to have to start from scratch all over again with another piece of software.

Here are others thread were I've asked questions related to this:

Streaming settings???
Live TV streaming to iPad?
Transcoding Live TV to Android

  Streaming settings???
Posted by: t^2 - 2013-12-26, 05:53 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (20)

So in the wiki page it mentions the following:

Quote:You can set the process priority, install location for VLC, bitrate, video size, buffer size, video/audio/mux combination for streaming, stream player (VLC or Windows Media) and view the video in the player via external player or web browser plugin.

For best streaming results use VLC 1.x or higher

Default Settings

VLC Player to open externally
Stream Bitrate = 256
320x213 Video Size
VLC Install Location set to c:\program files\videolan\vlc\
Stream Port = 7648 (If you change this port do not use 8080...this is used by VLC)
Stream Buffer = 5000 (5 seconds)
Below Normal Process Priority (on a strong machine you can bump it up but I have found no problems on this setting in combination with the other default settings)
Video/Audio/Mux combination = MP4 Video, MP4 Audio and Mpeg-TS Mux

I don't see any of those setting options. I only see what's in the image below. So whats' the story on this? Are these settings no longer available? Is it not possible to get NEWA setup for transcoding? What about the option to open in an external player? It doesn't seem to work. When I select view live it opens the chrome plugin. Initially that didn't even work. I had to uninstall the 64 bit version of VLC (yes, when the 64 bit version was installed I had the right path set in the VLC location field - Program Files - and it's now set to Progam File (x86) because the 32 bit version is installed) and install the 32 bit version to get the VLC plugin installed.

  Avast blocking port 8866?
Posted by: widman - 2013-12-26, 02:40 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I've recently started using the "NextPVR for Samsung" app, as well as messing around with NEWA. When I open port 8866 in the firewall on the NPVR server both NEWA and the Samsung app are able to connect at first, but eventually the connections get blocked. This happens even if I disable the firewall. If I do a full shutdown on the computer and then restart it, it will usually accept connections for a while.

A couple of days ago I uninstalled Avast from the NPVR server and that seems to have fixed the problem. From my searches on the web, it looks like the Network Shield in Avast might be stopping NPVR from streaming. Has anyone else seen this problem and found a way around it?

Thanks,
pete

  NEWA - TinyURL and security
Posted by: NumberFive - 2013-12-24, 11:39 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Hi,

Has anyone considered the security of the TinyURLs in NEWA? Are they created on demand when a webpage is viewed, or for every recording in the library in advance?

Is there a way to switch them off? I like the idea, but I'd rather it be done by the NEWA server on my machine and not an external service (e.g. http://<myip>:2846/Tiny.aspx?<small_url>). I worry about links to my webserver on public sites.

Thanks for advice Smile

  Channels won't map?
Posted by: paf077 - 2013-12-24, 10:42 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

I've just reset everything back up after our house burnt down to the ground in May. Our new house is built on our same lot and I decided to set back up the htpc yesterday. Everything works well except the channels won't map to the schedules direct channels as before. They stay with the scanned number instead of the real channel numbers. I've retried 3 times but it's still the same.

Win7 Ultimate , NPVR 3.1.1 with r1 patch. Is there a special trick to map the channels for the guide?

Thanks,

  Live TV - 3.1.1
Posted by: tm12 - 2013-12-24, 08:26 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I updated to 3.1.1 with the R1a patches installed. Whenever I try to watch Live TV, I'm getting a communication error.

I'm using a PVR-500 analog tuner. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have attached the logs.[ATTACH=CONFIG]37702[/ATTACH]

Searching for the following error in the log did not produce any solutions.

Code:

Bug in Newa Interface and stopping recordings
Posted by: hyperactive - 2013-12-24, 01:54 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

Hello there

Try this experiment.
start up nextPVR and press f2 for Live TV
press ctrl-k to start recording
Press escape to get out of live TV and go back to the main menu.
Then exit nextPVR, be careful you don't close the NDigitalHost.exe process
Open firefox and go into the newa interface.
Click manage recordings and then click on either panel view or table view.
Now click the name of the program you're recording, this should open a new window.
When I click on cancel recording, the window closes, but the recording won't stop.
Is this what happens on your machines?
I'm using the latest version of NextPVR with the -r1a patch.
Thanks.

  W7 Firewall issue
Posted by: OTAjunkie - 2013-12-23, 08:46 PM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (1)

I decided to revisit ndroid after jumping on the initial release.

Very happy to see transcode settings and smooth transition to MPlayer but my problem remains the same:

Despite allowing the "ndroid service" through Windows7 Firewall as well as setting "specific ports" in "advanced settings" the ONLY way nDroid works is with Windows firewall "OFF" (for both LAN and WAN).
Brian, you've done great work with this app and I know you are not a "Windows Firewall" expert. I'd love to put this to use but there must be away to correct my configuration so that the firewall can be "ON".
There is a D-Link modem in the mix but I believe it to be set right.
I can be watching a stream, then turn on firewall, and after the appropriate delay the client hangs.
btw:NEWA runs like charm(with firewall ON).
Is there a DNLA setting or rule that I'm missing?
Can anybody help me out?

one other bug:
my designsted "Music" folder(very large) won't load even after waiting hours but if I create a single album folder, that loads (populates).
