HD PVR and Server 2012 Issues
Posted by: los93sol - 2013-08-23, 06:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Okay, I got my setup to work exactly one time. I'll cover the details of my setup here...

All on the same machine:
-Windows Server 2012
-NextPVR
-Hauppauge HD PVR
-DirecTV HR24 connected via component and spdif
-XBMC client used to view live TV from NextPVR

I have been unable to get NextPVR display live TV even once, I always get a black screen then the application hangs. The .ts files in C:\Temp are all 0Kb in size.

One time I was able to get XBMC to display live TV, but it has not worked since, every other time it says "Working" until it eventually times out and gives me a message that "The tuner is no longer available"

I have installed BDA drivers to the machine.

I get errors in the logs about "DirectSound not found" or something to that effect, I will post the actual logs when I return home this evening. The server does NOT have a sound card. I have added a NVidia GT620 PCIe card to the machine so video is out that card over HDMI to an external receiver. I have tried over straight VGA with no audio as well and it does not work either.

I have registered the ArcSoft codec and configured it in the settings for H.264, no clue what other people are using with this tuner, it would be nice if someone would start a table of codecs to hardware that works....would probably save people a lot of time trying different configurations.

That's all I can think of right now to describe the issue. If anyone has any tips I'd greatly appreciate it, I don't have an option to change the audio renderer to my NVidia card which is what I'm thinking it should be set to, or maybe I just need to add a sound card to the machine, idk, I've spent way about 16 hours this week trying to sort this issue out on my own so I'd love to get this solution working and stable!

Thanks for such an awesome piece of software, the one time I saw it work, it worked extremely well and I was impressed. I understand I have a bit of an odd setup as server editions are not optimal for this sort of thing, unfortunately, it's my only option without adding a whole other machine to my network JUST for TV and that just seems wasteful.

  music via spdif?
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2013-08-23, 05:03 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (20)

I just switched from an old analog surround-sound receiver to a newer dolby digital receiver, along with a set of much smaller speakers (using center and L/R, no surrounds right now), along with a sub-woofer.

I initially hooked it up the same as my old system, with the analog cable from the htpc to the receiver. TV and music sounded quite good as well - TV was being processed as 3.1 surround, while music was sent to the l/r speakers and sub-woofer (2.1).

My HTPC has a coax digital audio output, so I figured I ought to make use of it. I connected it up and configured both Windows and AC3Filter to use the SPDIF output, and TV audio now sounds pretty awesome - it's making explicit use of the low frequency effects channel and I'm hearing things I never heard before.

On the other hand, music now sounds very weak. It's being output as 2-channel stereo, and the receiver is being quite literal about it and sending the audio only to the l/r speakers and isn't using the sub at all. These tiny speakers just aren't up to the task without the sub.

So the question is, how do I get music sent over SPDIF in a 2.1 or 3.1 format? How do you guys with digital receivers handle this? Or is my receiver just too stupid?

(I'm using NPVR's built-in music player, if that makes any difference)

  Can't record anything.
Posted by: somidscr21 - 2013-08-22, 07:02 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (20)

I have a windows 7 vm set up for recording. I used it successfully, but it just stopped working. Now everytime I try to record I get this error in the record log:
Invalid file passed to StartParallelProcessing():

I have it set to record to a second hard drive on there and the directory has full permissions. As a test I tried recording to my "My Videos" folder, and I got the same error. I'm not quite sure what else to check or what other info would be helpful, but just let me know and I'll get it.

Hi,

I'm getting the above message when trying to watch live tv. This started as a problem with XMBC 12.2 where it would freeze after about 10 minutes. I then tried using nPVR and had the same issue. Playback seems to work fine in WMC and through HDHR Prime quick TV. I've attached logs for reference. Please let me know if there's anything else needed.

Thanks!

  Windows email app recommendations?
Posted by: bgowland - 2013-08-22, 12:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

In the true spirit of the General Discussion forum this is totally unrelated to NextPVR...

I've been using Outlook Express for years (mostly because I've been too lazy to change). It's functional but lacking in many ways and is seriously outdated.

I've now got 4 email addresses I need to check regularly and a few others on an occasional basis and Outlook Express just doesn't handle things well.

Just wondering what email apps people use that they would recommend.

Cheers,
Brian

  Freeview and Freesat Channel logos
Posted by: Lao Pan - 2013-08-21, 07:59 AM - Forum: NPVR Documentation - Replies (14)

I am finding it a struggle to squeeze the logos into small enough file sizes to post on the forum even with ultra compression.

Do you think it would be appropriate to have a wiki page for Channel Logos?

If so if one of the nice wiki elves could put up a new page in an appropriate place in the wiki and let me have access I will look after the UK Freeview and Freesat logos (for the time being Big Grin)

Also I am sure there are other people with logos - Jaggy NZ Freeview for one who could also contribute if they wanted.

  Hauppauge SoftPVR Wiki page
Posted by: Lao Pan - 2013-08-21, 07:44 AM - Forum: NPVR Documentation - Replies (20)

According to the wiki page

Quote:Please note: The following bat files are configured for installing from WinTV7 v2.8a. For other versions of WinTV7 the bat file will need editing (in notepad) to change the version number of WinTV7 that has been downloaded.

But both the bat files still say 2.2d - latest haupauge from that linked page is 2.8a

I don't need it myself but it is causing confusion to new users.

Additionally - wouldn't it be better to rewrite the bat file and wiki page so that the installer and bat are placed in a folder in the root of C to run, rather than in program files - for UAC reasons? Especially with Windows 8

ImageGrabLite -- Add automatic XBMC scan for new content ?
Posted by: msmith8228 - 2013-08-20, 06:37 PM - Forum: Add-ons (3rd party plugins, utilities and skins) - Replies (6)

Is there any way to get IGL to automatically kick off a XBMC "scan for new content" after a TV show recording has been completed and renamed as part of the post processing sequence?

I want to automatically start a XBMC "scan for new content" rather that a XBMC "full library update" -- a full library update can take a lot of time on a large database and all "watched status" is lost -- whereas a "scan for new content" can be targeted for a specific show only, runs in a few seconds and keeps the previously watched status of earlier shows intact.

I know this is possible as a program called Sickbeard can auto launch a specific XBMC scan for new content when a TV web file has been downloaded from the internet using a nzb download program called SABnzbd. The process is quite automatic -- when a new TV episode is available on the internet it is automatically downloaded, unpacked, renamed and moved to a XBMC file location and then the final step in the automatic process is to kick off the XBMC scan for new content for the specific TV show -- to get it recognized in the XBMC database.

I was wondering if would be possible to provide a similar last step in the IGL process to get newly recorded and renamed TV show files into the XBMC database. The Sickbeard program uses a Python script to run and control this XBMC process. I found the code for this posted on the internet but I am completely useless at Python programming and have no idea as to how to integrate it with IGL or as part of an additional post processing process step for NextPVR.

If I understand it clearly it is quite easy to kick off a XBMC "full library update" from within a batch file (using a built in command in Eventghost) but it is somewhat more difficult to get XBMC to start a targeted "scan for new content". The first step involves querying XBMC for the location in its database for a specific TV show -- and then using that location along with the name of the new TV show episode to be added -- start the specific "scan for new content".

Any ideas as to how this can be added to NPVR + IGL ?

Need Help Setting up a Client PC...
Posted by: sieggs1 - 2013-08-20, 06:19 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I would think this would have already been posted somewhere, but I can't seem to find a good setup link for connecting a client PC for NPVR. I have a combined NPVR Client/Server running in my downstairs office and it contains a dual HD tuner card. Everything has been setup and channels configured and I am able to watch live TV on that PC and use the NPVR addon to XBMC Frodo 12.2.

So my question is how do I set up my remote client on my upstairs PC to connect to the server downstairs and make use of it's installed tuners? I have already downloaded NPVR on the remote client PC as well as XBMC. I figure I should get the remote client configured in NPVR first before I move on to interface it with XBMC.

If there are instructions already posted for this specific task, could someone post the link? Otherwise what steps do I have to do to configure the remote client PC?

Thanks,

Update: OK, I found limited info on the NextPVR website here http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...on.Devices.

On my Client machine, I checked the box for Act as Client PC and entered the name of my server, PrecisionT7500. In the database share, I put \\PrecisionT7500\Users\Public\NPVR. However, after saving changes and restarting NPVR, I get an error that says, "Server database not found at \\PrecisionT7500\Users\Public\NPVR\npvr.db3". Then I suspected I had to add NRecord.exe, NPVR.exe, and Ntray.exe to the firewall exceptions list, which I did. I am still getting the same error message in which it cannot find the database.

What else do I need to do? I have verified that the database path is correct and the npvr.db3 file does exist on the server.
